Is there a such thing as being too young to admin a board? How young is too young?

I'd say anyone under 13 is too young. However I prefer admins to be adults on forums I frequent. I don't know why, it just makes me feel more comfortable.

I dont think there is much of an age gap providing you can show the maturity to manage and work with you're community and staff.

You have to start sometime, but that's not to say that you're not going to lead a path of destruction and get into situations that you're not ready to handle. Whenever I first started, I was eleven, and I was stalked by someone over the internet for the betterpart of three years because of how poorly I handled a situation. The guy was obsessive and selfish, I couldn't fathom that at the time, or at least, I didn't know how to respond to it. If anything, the way I handled it poured gasoline on the fire. I remember whenever I was posting on a forum, I didn't have the best of grammar, and was ritiqueled relentlessly. I didn't handle that well either, got myself banned in a blind rage. Realistically, yes, it's probably wise to start being an administrator whenever you're a little older, not to say that you shouldn't pursue forums. Oh, absolutely, forums are absolutely fantastic, and you can meet and discuss things with a multiple of unique people, maybe learn along the way that way?

I think it depends on the type of forum you are running. Kids are learning the computer world at younger ages these days. It comes down to maturity and the type of forum. Start them out just like you do in the real world working... staff helper, moderator asst., moderator, etc.

I would think that anything under 13/15 is probably too young. I don't think that a young admin like that is mature enough to deal with some problems that may arise when running a forum.

Below 13 years are just too immature to create forums & administrate them. They can't handle the situations & problems that arise among members & they themselves start trolling. They also tend to get very power hungry & hence start giving perma bans to members who just say idiot or shut up to an admin. I've even seen adults doing it lol. But I've also seen 14 year olds handling their forums very efficiently. It sometimes comes as a shock to me to know that a forum with thousands of posts & members has a 14 year old root admin. So I guess age & maturity to understand a situation & handle it are two very different things.

That's funny because I seen my fair share of teenagers and adults do the same thing regarding power abuse, trolling, etc. that only those kids allegedly do. Age does NOT define your intellgience or maturity.

Depends on maturity. Some 15 year olds are responsible enough to, yet some 19 year olds aren't. Its a person to person case.

I started my first website at 14.

Age is only a number, especially so on the internet. It's all about how mature you are.

On my board anyone 13 and up can join and anyone has the chance of being staff if at any point I need a new one or two. Anyone younger gets an error message.

13 years is the de facto age required to become an admin. Also if you take COPPA into consideration than 13 is the magic number.

Someone 13 does not have the life experience required to be truly mature.
You can't be sure of that. For all you know they grew up in a war zone or something. Unlikely, I know, but 13-year-olds would have been considered adults a century ago. It all depends on how they're raised.

Look at me playing devil's advocate again

Life experiences define maturity not age. While it's true that most who are mature happen to be adults, it doesn't mean age has anything to do with it. It's not how long you spend on this planet but rather what you do with the years you are here that really matter. It's the only way I could explain how we can have children that are far more mature then some adults.

Age has nothing to do with anything. If you are mature enough to run a forum age really does not matter. I am only 15 and have managed to keep a forum going for almost 2 years now.

Personally, I would prefer administrators to be eighteen or above, purely because that way I know they are adults, and I can deal with them as such. Of course there are exceptions, but I can count the number of mature teenagers I've met on one hand.

I think if your 13 and up its ok. As long as you can demonstrate the maturity and responsiblity to manage/handle being an admin.

How do you even know how old the admin is? I've been to many sites where they do not disclose their age. Just saying....
