For the members that have cats
Does your cat let you or is a battle?

My cat has a Mortal Kombat fight everytime we try to clip his nails.

Actually, a mortal combat fight with a possessed cat would be the ultimate in awesome. Well, unless you're the opponent.😾

I have never tried to trim my current cats' claws. They have a couple of cat "trees" that I notice them pulling & scratching on daily; they have a cheap cocoa mat that they really work out enthusiastically on. I see little shed kitty nails pretty often. And sometimes I have to figure out something to keep them from scratching on the furniture; latest thing I've discovered is some colorless lemongrass 'flavored' essential oil wax cubes. I don't melt these, just rub them on spots/places I need to which leaves a smell that is disagreeable to the cats.

I'm sure their claws are very sharp, but these two just happen to be non-people-or dog-scratchers.
Seems that I have had a cat in the past that did scratch (me) and I did clip those sharp little needle tips; but she was peaceful about it. :D

In the past i seen a lot of shed nails also .... i never had a problem with Morgana with her nail i didn't trim them at all .
I notice lately with Morgana that her nails grow a lot and she does nothing..... the other time one went inside the skin and also the fur stuck there .. she hates been touch on the feet especially the back and don't you dare to touch the lower back , she is very quiet cat she does not scratch any furniture never had this problem with both of my cats only a little in the first year as a very active kittens ... people even surprised i have cats and nothing destroyed in the house .. and she is listening too she knows where allowed or not most times works lol ... she is a strong cat and when she scared or does not like something it is hard to keep her down ... i can do it but trying to cut a nail and hold a cat down when she moves like crazy i worry i will cut her foot ... the only time her nails get cut is when goes to the vet for the fur to cut and while she is asleep they don't dare either lol so this happen mostly once a year.

I also have trees and are huge as most small don't work for Maine Coon Cats
I have two

.. and she is listening too she knows where allowed or not most times works lol
Now, I find this to be totally un-catlike and amazing. These two are the same way. I've decided that I'm just tired of cat hair on the bed; and so all I've had to do to discourage that is to 'hiss' & give them a brief scold a few times & now they do not get on the bed. I'm amazed myself, didn't think I could "cure" them of doing that. :)
Same routine with kitchen counters. It's almost like they care what I think. :ROFLMAO:

she is a strong cat and when she scared or does not like something it is hard to keep her down ... i can do it but trying to cut a nail and hold a cat down when she moves like crazy i worry i will cut her foot ... the only time her nails get cut is when goes to the vet for the fur to cut and while she is asleep they don't dare either lol so this happen mostly once a year.
Oh yeah! I understand that; you never know how strong the soft little kitty is until you 'cross the line'!!

(Well, being a Maine Coon, yours is not exactly 'little' )

Cats can learn too
And yes Maine Coon are a little on the bigger size cats :D My cat a little small but not all are big like some photos you see online .....usually people post the most big size ... but still she is way bigger than most other breed when i hold her she cover most of me lol but what they say is having dog-like characteristics is true.

My cats are both "alley cats". The little solid black one, a rescue from a feral litter was intended as an outside 'barn cat'; but when she was old enough to be spayed, she was still very tiny. So I kept her as an inside cat; did not have the heart to let her run free to be such 'easy pickings' for the hawks or owls. She's still a little on the "wild-y" side....does not like to be cuddled.

The tuxedo was picked up on the streets by the animal shelter as a stray; just had to have that one because she is also a Kitler. (Kitty + Hitler) :D She's just an average cat size.

I no longer have a cat but Mister Ellis would have let me know in no uncertain terms what he thought of it. He would have scratched and bitten the life out of me.

I wish we could trim my cats nails, but there is no way they will let me take away their razor stabbers lol

i would never trim or cut my cats claws its cruel. they need their claws
You may be confusing trimming/cutting with de-clawing. ?? Hopefully most veterinarians have ceased declawing housecats...that is definitely inhumane.

There are time need to be done when it becomes dangerous for the cat to a point where they are uncomfortable for the cat or may even curl back into their toe or paw pad and when long can get torn out and cause bleeding or other problems
If the cat scratch often and do the work all good but example at the moment my cat doesn't the vet had to put her to sleep once to remove a nail from her that had curl back into her toe ...she was in pain also because the rest of the nails were so long were touching her skin...
