U.S. politicians are outraged that the country's athletes will wear uniforms made in China when the London Olympics hold the opening ceremonies later this month.

I think they should be embarrassed, said Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid of Nevada. I think they should take all the uniforms, put them in a big pile, and burn them and start all over again.

The uniforms, which include berets, blazers and pants, were created by American designer Ralph Lauren, whose company is also a sponsor of the U.S. Olympic team. *Click source link for pictures.

The U.S. Olympic Committee (USOC) defended its choice to work with Lauren.

Do you agree or disagree with Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid?

Agreed with Senator Reid. This is absolutely bananas that American Olympic athletes have to wear foreign-made uniforms. It is now TOO late to fix the problem.

Why does it matter so much where the uniforms are made? Maybe it's more efficient to be made in China..

I think with the way the US economy is right now, it would have been a better decision to have these athletes wear something that says Made In The USA. Probably was less expensive to have the uniforms made in China but since when does the government care about spending money?

National pride? Bah. Most of the equipment they'll be using isn't made in America. Hell, it's probably not made here in the UK either. The absolute last thing we need to do is spend inordinate amounts of money on trivial bullshit like this. Not to mention the political fallout his outburst will probably cause. Remember, China is competing in the Games too.

~Update~

Designer Ralph Lauren announced Friday that the uniforms it provides the U.S. Olympic team at the 2014 Winter Games in Sochi, Russia, will, in fact, be made in the United States.
