United Nations Secretary-General, Ban Ki-moon: ''I am deeply troubled... nuclear threats are not a game''

UN chief Ban Ki-moon has said the North Korea crisis has gone too far after Pyongyang announced plans to restart its main Yongbyon nuclear complex.

Speaking at a news conference during a visit to Andorra, Mr Ban called for urgent talks with the North.

North Korea banned South Korean workers from entering the joint South-North industrial complex in Gaeseong, located near the western border with North Korea, Wednesday, only allowing workers currently staying there to return home.

The North sent an official notification of the restriction to the South earlier in the day, according to the Ministry of Unification.

“We deeply regret the entry ban and urge it to normalize the situation immediately. The entry ban is disrupting stable management of the complex,” the ministry said in a statement read by Kim Hyung-seok, its spokesman.

“The move not only has a negative impact on inter-Korean relations but will bring along criticism from the international community and further isolation.”
