Should children under the age of 18 be allowed to join and use Facebook?

Why do you feel the way you feel about this topic..

I don't see the problem with it. Granted, I don't see why little kids need one considering their age. When they should be out and about doing things in the yard like tic tac toe or whatever.

I don't really think it's a problem.

Facebook can be useful for people of all ages... I guess.

If it were 18+ it'd sound like a dating site

Why restrict social networking?

Kids do it all the time regardless if they are on one place on the web or another. Whether they are on Facebook or Youtube, a chatroom, etc. Facebook is different from sites like Craigslist, dating websites, etc.; which children generally wouldn't be interested in anyways.

At one time Facebook was only for people above the age of 18. I don't really understand why that changed, as there are similar sites aimed towards a younger crowd anyway, such as Bebo and to a lesser degree MyYearbook. Facebook's difference with those sites is that it has less security. That, and the owners haven't been recorded claiming they would give their friends access to information people want private, a lá Mark Zuckerberg.

Interesting this is that my sister (age 12) isn't allowed to have facebook by my parents, and none of her friends are, so they all use google plus.
