Under fire for comments, Trump weighs in on California shooting

A random fatal shooting in San Francisco, allegedly by an immigrant, proves the United States must tighten its borders, according to a statement on Friday by U.S. presidential candidate Donald Trump, who is facing heavy criticism for his comments about Mexicans.

Kathryn Steinle, 32, was fatally shot as she walked with her father along the popular Embarcadero pier on Wednesday in what San Francisco police described as an apparent random attack.

Francisco Sanchez, 45, was quickly arrested nearby. He is on probation from Texas, police said.

He has a long criminal history and has been deported to Mexico five times, according to local media reports.

"This senseless and totally preventable act of violence committed by an illegal immigrant is yet another example of why we must secure our border immediately," Trump said in a statement.

"This is an absolutely disgraceful situation and I am the only one that can fix it. Nobody else has the guts to even talk about it," the billionaire developer and television personality said.

When announcing his plans on June 16 to seek the Republican nomination for president, Trump described immigrants from Mexico to the United States as drug-runners and rapists.

His comments prompted a widespread outpouring of criticism.

I don't understand why being an illegal immigrant involved in a crime makes you any more a prime target for scrutiny. We have plenty of legal citizens here who shoot each other each day, but just because they were born here or went through the process doesn't make them special. You do the crime you do the time, and, if you happen to be an illegal immigrant whilst doing it, also have to deal with the law of the land as it is now.

In any case, Trump is an outright old, racist white man and that's the bottom line. And he keeps shooting himself in the foot, which is fine by me. He deserves to be shunned from the several corporations he's been offending.

So what exact words were racist?

At our home the fire works are so close where they launch from every year people just open there garages and have a party and set out chairs right there. So our new Black family neighbors who's accent I did not recognized learned they are from Haiti got here in his younger years and became successful through hard work had a pro Trump sticker on his car. Then when he compared Hillary to the corrupt politicians running Haiti I was really liking this guy. And when he said my politically stupid black and white friends will vote for her no matter how much of a crook she is just because her last name is Clinton is sad no matter how hard I try. And I was having a man crush with our new neighbor.
