Undercover Moderators

What are your thoughts on undercover moderators?



lol I find the thought to be amusing, but in all seriousness, it's a bit overboard for moderation in my opinion. I've been on forums where they seriously have undercover moderators who act as normal users, but use moderator powers, yet they appear as regular members. Again, too much for a forum, no need to have an FBI system in place to crack down on double posters.

Just kidding, staff need to be labled as staff so the members know who to go to for help and if any moderator actions are used on their posts (like moving them, locking them, deleting them, etc), they should know who did it and why.

That is rather silly.

Doesn't seem all that necessary in my opinion, as I believe moderators are here to help members out more than seeking to get others in trouble.

I've never come across them; closest I've seen is backseat moderation, which is an entirely different issue altogether

Funny thought. I think people take discussion forums way too seriously and some simply aren't cut out for it. I've seen some sad cases over the years.

I was a member of a forum that did not identify who a moderator was. I asked on the open board who the moderators were. I got several responses asking Why do you need to know who we are? Duh??? Not only did I know then by their responses, so did all the other members.

when i asked i was just told 'theres a list in a thread from sometime last year......if you want to know you will have to find it'

whole idea of mods is so they are there to help you.....if they stay hidden they must have a very easy job!
