When Anschutz started the Examiner in its current format, he envisioned creating a conservative competitor toThe Washington Post. According to Politico.com, When it came to the editorial page, Anschutz’s instructions were explicit — he 'wanted nothing but conservative columns and conservative op-ed writers,' said one former employee. The Examiner's conservative writers include Byron York (National Review), Michael Barone(American Enterprise Institute, Fox News), and David Freddoso (National Review, author of The Case Against Barack Obama).

[font=tahoma, helvetica, arial, sans-serif]Obama is the food stamp president. According to him, everyone should be able to get food stamps, healthcare, and a payback, even if they sit at home and do nothing all day.

[font=tahoma, helvetica, arial, sans-serif]Where the hell are you getting this last part from?

[font=tahoma, helvetica, arial, sans-serif]I believe that's true for less than half the people on food stamps.

[font=tahoma, helvetica, arial, sans-serif]Why exactly do you believe this?

[font=tahoma, helvetica, arial, sans-serif]
[font=tahoma, helvetica, arial, sans-serif]I don't need healthcare, Obama will provide me with healthcare.

[font=tahoma, helvetica, arial, sans-serif]Hence the fuss over the individual mandate and the accompanying penalties.

In 2012, there's roughly 46 million people in the US that are on food stamps. That's the highest it has ever been. Second, Obama's healthcare reform pushes for government healthcare. Last, un-employment can be collected up to 6 months, if not more, depending on where you live. Government food stamps, government healthcare, and government checks in the mail.

Under President George W. Bush the number of recipients rose by nearly 14.7 million. Bush was in office for two terms. Under Obama, the increase so far has been 14.2 million. He's still in his first term, and assuming that he was elected again, that number would pass Bush by far.

Obama' s believe everyone in the United States should have healthcare. That's unrealistic.

Obama extended unemployment benefits.

Overall, I believe America is the most amazing nation, and I believe it is the land of opportunity. However, it has been derailed. Benefits are created to help Americans get off their feet and get back into the workforce and provide for themselves and /or their families, or help the disabled. For example, a woman at my dad's grocery store tried purchasing hot lobster. You're not allowed to buy hot foods with food stamps. Personally, as a middle class family, we can not even afford to buy lobster for the entire family. So for someone on food stamps claiming they've bought lobster from other grocery stores using food stamps, is despicable. That fact is, he's been exposed to a lot of people on food stamps that are rude, and feel entitled to food stamps and will do nothing to get back off their feet. I've worked with him in the past, I've seen it first hand. The majority of people on food stamps that I've encountered where people who are on food stamps for no reason other than it's their own fault. Those same people are on unemployment, because they were laid-off, when odds are, they were a bad employee, just as they were a bad customer trying to buy lobster. The feeling of entitlement has to stop. There are legitimate reasons to be on food stamps, medicaid/medicare, and unemployment. However, I believe the true reasons have been skewed in a sense of entitlement, and that the American people feel the government owes them.

I love it.

Because the Examiner is admitted to be 'conservative' it is instantly and totally dismissed and anything stated in it is worthless.

The same is true for Fox and the Wall Street Journal.

We can only post articles from known liberal organizations or it is biased and shan't be used.

That appears to be the other side's working definition of Intellectual Honesty.

In 2012, there's roughly 46 million people in the US that are on food stamps. That's the highest it has ever been.

That would be the results of continued population growth and the fact that this is the worst economic downturn since the great depression.

Second, Obama's healthcare reform pushes for government healthcare.

How? I've never heard anyone say this. If anything it did the opposite and killed any possibility of single payer in the near future.

Last, un-employment can be collected up to 6 months, if not more, depending on where you live.

And this is bad? You do realize that these measures have kept millions out of poverty and off the streets during the recession? For a very large portion of the population, being unemployed for a few months is enough to financially sink them.

government healthcare

Government health care doesn't exist in the United States. We have health insurance programs through the government like medicare and medicaid (and that's it) but providers are private.

Under President George W. Bush the number of recipients rose by nearly 14.7 million. Bush was in office for two terms. Under Obama, the increase so far has been 14.2 million. He's still in his first term, and assuming that he was elected again, that number would pass Bush by far.

And you realize almost all of that growth is a result of Bush's recession? Obama hasn't completely transformed food stamps, he just gave the program more money because more people rely on it during a recession.

Obama' s believe everyone in the United States should have healthcare. That's unrealistic.

Tell that to anyone living in any other developed nation and they will laugh in your face. Its unrealistic? How come Canada can do it? And Britain? And France? And Cuba? And Germany? And Norway? And Sweden? And Denmark? And Japan? The list goes on.

However, I believe the true reasons have been skewed in a sense of entitlement, and that the American people feel the government owes them.

I don't at all disagree with this last paragraph, we do have too much of a sense of entitlement in America today. I don't support these programs because I was to give free stuff to lazy white people in Alabama. Like you said there are legitimate purposes to these programs and that is the primary goal of those programs. So many more people do work hard and still rely on these programs.

Because the Examiner is admitted to be 'conservative' it is instantly and totally dismissed and anything stated in it is worthless.

I wasn't saying it was worthless, just pointing out something that should be mentioned and acknowledged before reading. Doc, in the future I would greatly appreciate it if you would be able to elaborate on why you are posting a certain article and why you feel it is salient rather than simply throwing down links and making ambiguous statements.

We can only post articles from known liberal organizations or it is biased and shan't be used.

How about organizations that don't have an overwhelming bias?

Food stamps, health insurance, and unemployment are all great programs that help Americans. However, I believe they're not serving their purposes. Food stamps are to help hard working Americans that at the end of the day, still have trouble providing for themselves and their families. There's no incentive to get a job to pay for food if you know the government will take care of you. Medicaid and Medicare are great programs to help people in need, but I feel people don't get health insurance because they know their government will take care of them. Last, unemployment. I know a guy who was let go because he just didn't apply himself at all. He gets money for the government for 6 months, meanwhile, he's at home on xbox playing GTA IV half the time. These programs serve a purpose, but their not living up to their purpose, in my opinion. With the debt at US: $15,579,852,946,457 - Debt as of April 2012, we can't afford to pay people not to get a job, insurance, and food.

but I feel people don't get health insurance because they know their government will take care of them.

If medical bankruptcy counts as being taken care of then yes.

As for the rest of what you posted, I understand your grievances. Especially considering the personal encounters you've had with people who have abused the system.

At the same time I know that the additional money given to these programs kept 4 million people out of poverty and I'm sure that they helped an incredible number of families and individuals get through a very tough economic time. But with any program like this it is impossible to prevent abuse completely.

You've just got to love the irony.

On at least four occasions, MSNBC's Chris Matthews mocked Sarah Palin for how he felt she'd do if she were ever on the hit television game show Jeopardy!.

In a delicious example of instant karma, the self-proclaimed brainiac got his chance to show America how smart he was in a special Power Players version of the show Monday, but came up quite short finishing dead last with the paltry sum of only $2,300 (video follows with transcribed highlights and commentary):

This is just hilarious, no matter where you stand on the birther issue.

According to a promotional booklet produced by the agency, Acton & Dystel, to showcase its roster of writers, Obama was born in Kenya and raised in Indonesia and Hawaii.

Miriam Goderich edited the text of the bio; she is now a partner at the Dystel & Goderich agency, which lists Obama as one of its current clients.

This was nothing more than a fact checking error by me--an agency assistant at the time, Goderich wrote in an emailed statement to Yahoo News. There was never any information given to us by Obama in any of his correspondence or other communications suggesting in any way that he was born in Kenya and not Hawaii. I hope you can communicate to your readers that this was a simple mistake and nothing more.

And as for the Chris Matthews thing? Why is it ironic? Did Palin do better than him? Was the jeopardy-esque show politically oriented at all?

While I don't think it is a reflection of his intelligence, I do agree there is more than a little irony in his performance. The link they provided has video footage of some of the questions.
