DANVILLE ââ¬â A week has passed since flags at three memorials and the Vermilion County War Museum were turned upside down in Danville.
Itââ¬â¢s still up in the air as to when the union will fly right side up again.
Harold ââ¬ÅSparkyââ¬Â Songer, president of the Vermilion County War Museum, said he chose to fly the flags at the four locations in the ââ¬Ådistressââ¬Â position, exercising his freedom of speech and right of opinion in doing so.
The former prisoner of war and veteran of three wars hit a boiling point about a myriad of political issues and felt raising the flags upside-down was in essence a wake-up call.
The action has created controversy, with some feeling that Songer overstepped his bounds.
Among those disagreeing with Songerââ¬â¢s actions is the vice president of the Vermilion County War Museum, Harry Johnson. He said the move to turn the museum flag upside-down should have been a board decision.
