What's the most unusual way you have ever made a new friend?

Do you have any friends that people would be surprised by? As in, you're complete opposites or have different styles, tastes, etc.

Right here on Off Topix! I have friends here from all over the world.

I forgot DrLeftover! :( He and I met on another forum over 6 years ago. It all happened because I asked him to accept my friendship request. He typed back asking me why I sent that to him. I thought he was mad. I told him it was because I loved reading his threads and posts. He said no one had ever sent him one before. He accepted and we've been friends ever since. He's been with me through the good and the bad. Never judging just there to listen to me vent and offer me advice. No one could ask for a better friend and I'm lucky to be able to call him one.

Well, damn.

And, you, Miss Lady, I consider not only a friend, but after all we've been through, a close friend as well.

I used to work as a voluntary Adult Literacy tutor.

One of my students had been given up by most others as a lost cause, as he cold barely recognise letters, let alone words. Through a lot of patience & a lot of hard work by him, I got him to a fairly decent level of literacy, and he is now working as a Charge Hand at the General Hospital, where part of his duties involve completing all sorts of forms.

Needless to say we are still the best of friends.

Aww, that's great that you we're able to help someone improve their life AND gain a friend in the process. :)
