Just go change your password.

They really have no idea how many accounts were compromised.

A major U.S. hotel operator says it's investigating a data breach that may affect customers from nearly a year ago but won't say how many people might be affected.

Indiana-based White Lodging on Monday was tight-lipped about the investigation and declined to answer questions. Cybersecurity blogger Brian Krebs first reported the breach and said it could affect thousands of guests at Marriott hotels managed by White Lodging since March 23, 2013.

The breach involving credit and debit card information is the latest in a wave of cyber break-ins involving millions of customers reported during the past month.

Marriott issued a statement saying the breach didn't impact any systems it owns or controls and that it had no additional information.

White Lodging manages 168 hotels under various brands in 21 states.

RE: ANOTHER data breach

This is one I don't have to worry about, thank goodness.

RE: ANOTHER data breach

You'd think these services would be hack proof!

WASHINGTON - Sears, the retailer run by hedge fund manager Edward Lampert, is investigating a possible security breach after a series of cyberattacks on other retailers have exposed the data of millions of consumers.

The security review is still at an early stage as Verizon's digital forensics unit and the U.S. Secret Service sift through the company's computer data to look for traces of hackers and the extent of any incursion, according to two people familiar with the matter.

Sears, which is already working to reverse 28 straight quarters of declining sales, is now faced with fighting a possible hacking attack with shoppers on edge after a flurry of retail data breaches tarnished the image of merchants including Neiman Marcus and hurt sales at Target. Pinpointing the scope of an attack can take weeks because of the stealth techniques used by hackers.

The California Department of Motor Vehicles said Saturday that it was investigating a potential security breach of its credit card processing services, but officials said the agency had no immediate evidence that its computer system had been hacked.

The agency "has been alerted by law enforcement authorities to a potential security issue," a DMV spokesman said in a statement.

"There is no evidence at this time of a direct breach of the DMV’s computer system," the statement said. "However, out of an abundance of caution and in the interest of protecting the sensitive information of California drivers, the DMV has opened an investigation into any potential security breach in conjunction with state and federal law enforcement."
