Why do people make their boards into different versions?

Say they add another category to their forum. Then all of the sudden its Forum Name v1.4.

Lets say the alter their skin a bit... Its time to update that version number. Forum Name v2.0 is open!

Lol.. I think you get the idea.

Do you do this with your forums?

No, why should I? In the notice bar/welcome header I can put we recently updated, to possibly attract potential members, but I've never used different versions. Maybe I will once I do an IMMENSE revamp. Like software change, huge skin change, etc, etc.

I used to do something like this, but not anymore. It's just too much to say something like forum name v.1.0. I had to read your topic to figure out what you were talking about, Nebulous!

I see it a lot and think it's dumb for anyone to do it unless we were talking about like forum softwares or something like that.

I do see this on a lot of sites. Kid o does get me wondering. What's the point. Well now I know it wont happen here.

Even if MAJOR changes are done. It is unnecessary in my opinion.

We are talking about the actual title of the forum.

Like if I revamped this forum or converted it to vB or IPB or whatever, I wouldnt call it Off Topix v3.0 it would still be called Off Topix.

I do it only to show how much updates we have been through to give people a sense of time.

Call me crazy

But i don't do it after i add a category or update a skin

I have only seen a few forums do this, some even move once the new version is made, kinda weird...

I wouldn't change the name of the forum. I might make an announcement, if it were a big change--like when phpbb went from v2 to v3. That was a huge change......
