Out of these two popular paid softwares which do you like better? Why?

Is purchasing one of these even worth it when we have free alternatives like phpbb, smf and mybb?

IPB for me. I've used it a few times, and love it. I'd never pay for it, though. I'll stick to Phpbb.

IPB seems to be more advanced now. I cant wait to see what vb4 is like

phpbb2 is outdated and no longer supported by the people who made it. Also it has no sub forums!

I would choose vBulletin. Even if I had the money for vBulletin though I would rather spend it on better stuff for the forum.

vb4 turned out to be a disappointment and I converted to IPB. lol

I want to like IPB (Invision Power), but I have seen the resources it uses & general page load time. Also there is not a wide range of support about it & their community comes off as to censored for my liking. I also have not see a general discussion forum with high traffic use it (very high traffic such as Offtopic.com for example)

vBulletin I'd like to see do better (by better, I mean complete re-write & improved customer service & management).

XenForo seems to be what I have settled on for now. It uses very little resources (250+ members online = what 30 member use on vBulletin). But it needs to mature a little more.

XF is lacking in a lot of features as it is only a baby. This topic isn't about them anyway.

I guess if I had to pick one or the other... I'd most likely still seek a 3rd party alternative. LOL

If I had to settle for one or the other... I'm not sure. I guess vBulletin because I already own a copy, but with that said I wouldn't buy anything from them again in the future (having learned what I know now).

But if Invision could get their act together... I'd jump on over.

Well, it depends. As a owner of both licenses I think I can make a fair judgment. vBulletin is best when it comes to user customization and flexibility with design/layout, whereas IPB is designed more towards a presentable business-appearance with focus more on security, an easily navigable ACP, and social networking integrations.

vBulletin just doesn't feel nearly as customizable whilst IPB is great, however, I wouldn't say that either is worth it whenever the likes of phpBB and others are available.

IPB is best obviously. With all the exploits, and stuff I hear about vbulletin it would be like putting a image on my site saying, Hack my forum please. if I did use vbulletin. Which I never will.
