Some us here at Off Topix may remember a member by the username of Odie. This is the same username she also used at FG. I went to view FG this morning as a guest and found out that she had terminal cancer and passed away peacefully this morning in hospital at the age of 60. Her real name was Joan and I wanted to share this very sad news with those of you who knew her. May you rest in peace now Joan.

I had wondered where she had been. Sucks this happened, but may she rest well now.

At least she died peacefully.

OMG I just read about this on Oscar's facebook page. I knew Odie was ill but didn't know she had cancer. And she's just become a grandmother to baby Rylan too!

God Bless Joan.

According to Joans son, she originally went into the hospital for another reason (treatment for cataracts, I think). They admitted her last Friday because she had grown so weak so fast. When they ran tests they suspected cancer but it wasn't until yesterday that the doctors verified it.

Her family said she had a good idea of what her illness was but she refused to go for any tests. They also said that even if she had have done, it would have made no difference. By the time they got her to hospital, the cancer was everywhere.

Poor Odie. Rest in peace hunni. xxx

Sad news. I wish I could have had more interaction with her. She was a unique person & I hope she is at peace now.

I can't beleive it... I actually called her two years ago when I was in Toronto and spoke with her...

I spoke with her often in Odie's room....

I can't believe it..

I don't know if this is allowed or not from a Royalty thing, but I have made a few changes to Elton John's empty garden to deidicate it to Joan, if I can't do this go ahead and remove it. I know she loved her gardening:

What happened here

As the Toronto sunset disappeared

I found an empty garden among the flagstones there

Who lived here

She must have been a gardener that cared a lot

Who weeded out the tears and grew a good crop

And now it all looks strange

It's funny how one illness can damage so much grain

And what's it for

This little empty garden by the brownstone door

And in the cracks along the sidewalk nothing grows no more

Who lived here

She must have been a gardener that cared a lot

Who weeded out the tears and grew a good crop

And we are so amazed we're crippled and we're dazed

A gardener like that one no one can replace

And I've been knocking but no one answers

And I've been knocking most all the day

Oh and I've been calling oh hey hey Joan

Can't you come out to play

And through their tears

Some say she farmed her best in younger years

But she'd have said that roots grow stronger if only she could hear

Who lived there

She must have been a gardener that cared a lot

Who weeded out the tears and grew a good crop

Now we pray for rain, and with every drop that falls

We hear, we hear your name

Joan can't you come out to play in your empty garden

Joan

can't you come out to play in your empty garden

OMG, this is very very sad news!

I never really got to know her, but may she be at peace now. Rest In Peace, Odie/Joan.
