A soldier convicted of six rapes was jailed for a minimum of 11 years yesterday after one of his victims trapped him using tactics she learnt from television crime drama CSI.

Lance Corporal Jonathan Haynes, 30, who served with the Royal Logistics Corps, prowled the streets over a six-month period looking for targets before dragging them into his car.

In two of the attacks he drove his helpless victims to a disused barracks where he raped them. In another he bound the hands of a 16-year-old girl with a pillowcase and pulled a baseball cap over her eyes before raping her.

After the attacks Haynes, who always wore a balaclava, ordered his victims to wipe themselves with towels to destroy any forensic evidence.

He was only caught when one of his victims, remembering the significance of DNA evidence in the US series Crime Scene Investigation, managed to tear out strands of her own hair to leave in his car.

Police later discovered the samples and the soldier was found guilty of six rapes, two kidnaps and two attempted kidnaps on August 9 following a month-long trial.

That victim was very smart and brave to do what she did. Sometimes watching TV really does pay off.

I agree with Cranos. After found guilty of all the above crimes, it's shocking that he's only going to serve a minimum of 11 years.

That's quite awesome that the lass remembered this information whilst this was going on
