We were at the store this morning and I couldn't help but overhear a conversation happening not far from us.

The guy that was talking was using vocal sound effects, a la John Madden football color commentary, while engaged in a normal routine conversation.

It reminded me of a guy I worked with several years ago who did the same thing.

If he were talking about driving somewhere, he made car noises. He was very good at imitating windshield wipers.

He had a whole range of bathroom sounds, he did a passable telephone ring, had different sounds for slamming a car door and a house door, and so on. It was part of his conversation.

It reminds me of when you see somebody on TV reading to very young children, or perhaps the 'pre-cussing' version of Bill Cosby's comedy routines.

I do not usually make noises like that, even when describing the infernal racket the rear brakes on my van were making to the mechanic. I said, "a dry metal on metal grinding" and did not try to make the sound myself.

My question is. Do you talk like this, or do you know anybody that does?

I don't but my parrot does!

Maybe if I was talking to a small child or someone who didnt speak English very well.
