An attempt to beat the world record to get the largest number of dogs to stay at one time has failed.

The Kennel Club gathered 635 dogs to take part in the challenge, which required the animals to sit or lie still for two minutes.

The animals were lined up alongside their owners for the challenge at Rockingham Castle in Market Harborough, Leicestershire.

But the effort ended in failure after 34 animals were disqualified by independent adjudicators, meaning only 601 managed the feat.

The current record stands at 627, set by the RSPCA at Windsor Great Park in 2005, reports the Daily Telegraph.

A spokesman for the Kennel Club said: "Some dogs did seem to find it a bit too distracting. A few of them were a little too busy wandering around or sniffing the other animals."

Organisers say they will try again next year.

Wow, that's a lot of dogs. I'm surprised only 34 were disqualified. My dogs wouldn't have stayed for even 2 seconds!

If you have a dog, do you think you're dog could have stayed?

Thats a pretty large of amounts that did "stay" though, so I'd say thats an accomplishment. :P
