Okay, there are loads of promotion forums out there, but there is no way that any one person can join all of them! I just sent out an email to some of my contacts on MSN, telling them about our site. I know email is one way of promotion, but are there others? Ways that don't involve joining up with promotion forums? Because promotion forums are way too much work, and I don't really care for post exchanges or package requests, although those do help. Any suggestions?

Like you mentioned, if you have a brand new forum, packages do help.

Also, make sure you add your domain to different search engines. Then you'll get a few people linking from there..

Regardless, I hate to break it to you, there is no easy way of getting people to come to your site. Whichever way you decide to advertise, it will take lots of persistence, and time.

Twitter can be of help.

I tried Twitter once, but I didn't much care for it.

One thing I have started doing is taking advantage of the Notes application on Facebook. I don't know if that'll get me much results out of it, but at the same time, it's worth a shot.

@ Skillet: Yeah, I forgot about the search engine deal. Like Bing and Google, right? I'll have to try that too! What would be a good thing to add as tags?

cool, forum, friendly forum, chatting, etc. Things that are strong to your site. Just be creative, and put as many as you can.

You do realize that at any one time Twitter can bring in at least 20 guests when you post a link about anything from your site right? And uhh.. Facebook notes?

It's one of the applications on Facebook. You can write notes to your friends and things like that. And uh, I tried Twitter, but I didn't get any results from it. Unless I wasn't doing it right. I am new to this promotion thing, you know. So I'm still learning the ins and outs of it.

@ skillet. That's a good idea. I'll have to try it.

Those twenty guests are probably just twitter bots that flood anything that is linked on twitter not actual people.

Thats exactly what happens.

To me it seems the packages that these various promotion forum sites offer are good to get some basic stats down so your forum isn't empty, and hopefully a few active members. From there I find that most members come by word of mouth. Inviting your MSN or *insert messenger service here* as well as *insert social networking site* friends are a great idea though. As for twitter, I never had the patience to utilize it but some people work decent wonders with it so it's worth a shot if you want to try it.

Make use of social networking sites. Twitter and Facebook for example.
