So this morning, I called into work. I'm not feeling well. My stomach is crappy, I've got ... bowel issues, my head is congested and I have a bad headache. To top all that off, we have a pretty bad storm blowing through right now. 25 to 35 MPH winds, two to four inches of rain down-pouring, and gusts up to 60 MPH. Yet I have to walk from the bus station to work (about a 11 minute walk, normally), through all this crap. The path I usually take will most probably be flooded, meaning I have to detour an take a longer path (up to 20 minutes) to walk just to get to work.

Historically, when the weather has been bad, our sales are down. I get it, NOBODY wants to go out in the pouring rain, and god so help us if the power goes out...

But I just got told that "we need you to come in because we don't have anybody else closing." So, now I have to put myself in harms way, for a pathetic sales day, in a dark flooded walk path (because I'm sure it'll still be flooded tonight when I leave in the dark at 6:30 tonight), and possibly get more sick, all because this stupid company I work for refuses to hire any additional workers! Despite that two supervisors have quit now within the past two weeks. Oh, but "nobody wants to work".

No. People don't want to be exploited. And, Companies don't WANT to hire. You know, gotta keep those "record breaking profits" ever increasing. I swear, if I get more sick, I'm probably just going to quit too. Crap! I can't afford to quit, because I can't find another job (I've been trying for like a year and a half!) This just sucks.

Understandable. Although it likely won't offer much comfort, a lot of people are experiencing exactly what you do. My wife had to go to the hospital for what she was told was a heart attack. It eventually was revealed she had something called myocarditis, which is essentially inflammatory of the heart. When she was in the hospital, I was scared for her life. I had to jump through hoops for what added up to only a two day leave of absence and was denied twice for it. It's a selfish, cruel, and stupid world sometimes.

I think it's hilarious, knowing that all but one of our cashiers leave by 3 pm. We're still open until 5pm, and usually have a big rush of customers around 4 - 4:30, right before closing. You know its bad when the Senior Management of the store is on the registers checking people out, yet the branch manger (one of the aforementioned Senior Managers) refuses to hire anybody. And as I mentioned, we're down two supervisors. It takes a minimum of three months working a register just to become competent enough to know the product line and how the Front End works to be an effective Supervisor.

I *so* need to figure out how I can turn my creative writing passion into an income stream.
