I joined another forum like 3 days ago and at first it was everything okay nothing seemed so unusual.I have to note that this forum was launched right after I joined.
The admin posted a thread about usernames and he said that names can't contain this kind of things : (; : @) otherwise you will get banned or he has to change your username. So he had to remove this (: from my name. He said we have to keep the site clean.. What??? I said okay to him what I could do?.
Next day when I looked on the forum I saw that I became super moderator. Huh? I think that it would nice if he asked me if I want to be because I think I would said no. I am very busy in these 4 weeks I have 6 exams. The next thing is that he said now that I am a moderator I have to post a lot and I have to be very active. Sorry but he is not that person who will tell me what to do, if I want I will say if not that's it.
The thing that made me so nervous is that he posted that as a moderator I need to post more than just one word or one sentence. NO this is ridiculous...
He said to a person who is moderator too that he shouldn't post things like Thanks... I don't understand why.
And I won't stay active because he said to me like a million times, if I will remain active I will stay because I want that not because he said to me.

So guys what do you think? Should I stay there?

I hope you understand all.

If this Admin does not allow symbols in a username, this should be clearly stated on the registration form right next to the box to type in your desired username. If you by chance do type symbols into your username, an error should appear. To threaten to ban a member that does not know they cannot use symbols is ridiculous.

As far as making you a Super Moderator, the Admin should have asked first. Since the Admin did not ask you, I would simply tell him/her you do not want the position.

Only you can decide if you want to stay a member of this forum.

Well it wasn't stated, my bf laughed when he say that thread.

Other people aren't going to laugh if the Admin is going to threaten to ban you for something you had no knowledge of. Heck, it would make me think what other 'piddling crap' is going to cause me to be banned.

If somebody were to thrust super mod powers on me without so much as asking, I'd give them an object lesson by deleting every thread I could get my hands on and ban everyone I could until the admin put a stop to it.

He/She might think twice about just throwing it out there in the future.

Now, please tell us this idiot has a posting wait time too. I'm willing to bet the house it!

There's an idea! :P

Why would someone give moderator powers to a stranger in the first place? O.o

Well I think the admin is just a kid.

If it's specifically in the registration, then, it's no different than what A LOT of websites do, but if it's not, then, it's stupid. It isn't a big deal in the first-place, and I fail to see how it "keeps the forum clean," just a guy taking himself to seriously through a medium that isn't meant for serious business, the internet.

@Bea: Just curious if you are going to stay or leave that forum.

I agree, allowing symbols in usernames doesn't make things clean or dirty and is a petty thing for an admin to concern himself over.

Forum software with sloppy coding can't handle certain characters without fucking up the code, which in turn jacks up the page the character is on.

Examples include the single quote ( ' ), semi-colon ( ; ), or other characters that are used in the scripting language the forum is coded in.

Although those characters can be used in a post without problems, amateur scripters don't scrub functions to properly terminate those characters before parsing the code.

Ok, this reminds me of some forum, which had an avatar restriction. Plus a 10-word limit for posts, which nobody liked. Not going into details, lol.

No details being asked. Just want to know if this forum is still open.

The forum I mentioned closed down almost two years ago.

I see where the admin is coming from. I used to want a professional looking/feeling forum, but I also wanted a fun and relaxed atmosphere.. The problem is with the professional approach I was going for it took away from the fun/relaxing atmosphere I was also going for.. You can't go too far in either direction! That's the key. That's my little tip ;)
