'Well-Developed' Teen Girl Sees Rape Charge Dropped

A man in Sweden has been acquitted on charges of "child rape" because the girl's body was considered too "well-developed" for a 13-year-old, the Daily Beast reports. The 27-year-old man, whose name was withheld, saw the charges tossed out of court when officials decided the girl was so curvy that he "could not have known" her real age. Two courts—a district court and Sweden's Court of Appeal—threw out the case after seeing video of the girl talking to police officers, the Local reports. It's considered "child rape" in Sweden to have sex with someone younger than 15, but such charges depend on the defendant reasonably knowing that the sex partner is underage.

The girl had apparently fled her foster home for Västerås, just outside Stockholm, without money or a place to stay, when she met the man at a playground. She accepted his invitation for a drink, she says, because she was thirsty and hungry. The man initially denied having sex with her until his semen was discovered in her underwear. Now the girl's attorney says they plan to take the case to Sweden's Supreme Court, in the hope of setting a new benchmark case in their favor.

Killer released on 20-year anniversary of murders

The murders of the seven people aged between 20 and 35 in Falun, central Sweden on June 11 1994 shocked the country. Flink, a soldier in the Swedish army, was 24 years old at the time and was sentenced to 30 years in prison, but is now being released on probation 10 years early.

If Flink had committed the murders just a few years earlier, he would most likely have been sentenced to psychiatric care, based on how the law was then written. Instead, he was sentenced by the supreme court to life imprisonment. Later, Flink's sentence was changed to a time-specific one of 30 years.

Flink was heavily inebriated and in a "psychotic condition" when he committed the murders and has later said in interviews that he has a moral duty not to drink any more. He has also said he fears for his own safety outside of prison.

There has been much criticism that Flink's release coincides with the 20-year anniversary of the murders. Among others, the mother of one of Flink's victims said she found it offensive.

STOCKHOLM (AP) — A Swedish court has commuted the life sentence of man who killed four people to a 33-year prison sentence, making him eligible for release in 2016.

The Stockholm District Court says Tommy Zethraeus, who was also found guilty of the attempted murder of five people in a 1994 shooting spree outside a nightclub, could be released once he has served two-thirds of his sentence — in line with Swedish custom.

Why are they trying to justify it?

I'm assuming they're trying to place the blame on her, directly or indirectly, in that if she had only told him that she was 13 years old, he might not have had sex with her.  That or it was just inherently okay because she has developed more quickly than her peers, which means she doesn't mean shit regardless of what you look like.

Sounds to me like she was desperate and withheld telling him she was only 13. Perhaps, she was the aggressor thinking she could stay with him and freeload. When it didn't work out for her, she then reported the rape.
