Black Police Sergeant: ‘We’re Called Things Like Uncle Toms and Traitors to Our Community’

December 11, 2014

ST. LOUIS (CBS St. Louis/AP) – Jorge “Jinho” Ferreira feels the tension between being black and carrying a badge every day as a sheriff’s deputy in Alameda County, California.

“I feel like you have to prove yourself on every level,” said Ferreira, 39, who patrols about 30 miles east of San Francisco. “You have to prove yourself to the black community, you have to prove yourself to all of your co-workers, you have to prove yourself to society.”

With the nation roiled by two grand juries’ recent decisions not to indict white police officers in the deaths of unarmed black men, some black officers say that as they enforce the law, they also wonder whether the system they’re sworn to uphold is stacked against black men.

In interviews conducted by Associated Press reporters across the nation, retired and active black officers expressed concern about how black men are treated by the largely white police forces in the United States, an issue that has led to protests alleging police brutality. The officers say they want change just as much as anyone else, and advocate for it where they can because they, too, have something to lose.

“A lot of us have sons, and we want to make sure our colleagues are treating our young boys with dignity and respect,” said Oakland Police Lt. LeRonne Armstrong, a 16-year veteran.

When you're allowed to get away with things you shouldn't be able to get away with, then yeah, you should have to prove yourself. You're no longer protecting and serving the community when you're so trigger happy and quick to shoot first and ask questions later.

Seriously???  When the cops have to deal with more black criminals than criminals from other races, that doesn't mean the system is "stacked" against black men; it only means that black men commit more crime than other races.

Black people have the same opportunities to better themselves, to educate themselves, to apply themselves to a better future and work hard to secure that future as anyone else in this country.  Any person who wants to knuckle down and work hard for success can achieve that success if they want it.

give it up to a white person to say that racism and discrimination ain't real and that the cards were always stacked against the black people ever since, well, since ever, actually...

the issue of blacks is not that easy and  non-complex as you may think, regardless what the statistics might say... it's always been harder for the blacks to do anything in life and if you don't accept that simple fact then you're a lost cause... many factors come into play for the reasons why there's a lot of black criminals, but it's pretty much the same reasons why a lot of everyone, regardless of race and gender, are resorting to the criminal life... how can one work hard if there's no jobs for them? how will they work hard if it's hard for them to get the jobs? being unemployed and homeless is not just a racial thing, it's affecting all races and genders... it's a damn-if-you-do or damn-if-you-don't type deal for a lot of good people that are jobless and/or homeless that steal some food from a store to feed their children... it's the grandma that sold weed for money so she could take care of her grandchildren... i don't think they want that life... i know i don't... now it's unfortunate to see so many desperate people that must take desperate actions... not saying they are right for doing what they do but the problem is much bigger... america has an issue and we can't seem to figure out how to fix it due to being tangled up in wars and other nonsense...

that is all... for now...  :glare:

I just read a study about how some realtors utilize dirty, underhanded tactics around the Fair Housing Act, and they find ways of telling lies or doing other things that prevent black people and their families from moving into relatively okay, good, if not great and safe neighborhoods.  I don't have the link right now, but I'll post it later when I can find it again.  Of course, this doesn't happen everywhere, but the fact that it still happens to this day, decades after things like the Fair Housing Act was passed, is absolutely disgusting and should not be tolerated.  This is just one sad example of the uphill battle some people in this country have to fight even well after they were given the same "rights" as everyone else.  This isn't a fair game, though, and what many American's fail to realize is that racism, bigotry, and prejudice in all forms still exists today.  It's all around us, but many people simply don't want to believe or pay attention to it because they are irritated by it and don't think it's their problem. Just because you aren't racist and would--if you had the power--give that CEO position to a black man if you could does not mean other people wouldn't.

I will just post this again.

I know people are going to take this played out word of racism and use it here instead of seeing it for the truth it is. And it is not about racism but about a deep internal problem the black community needs to fix among themselves.

Well if you look at the statistics and not the phony baloney news to give people a excuse to riot, loot and kill it is the whites and every other less violent minority in America that is the victim not the black community. What black America needs is awakening to stop blaming everyone else for there problems. But instead realize it is a problem of there own making.

Here is a black man with much wisdom people should be listening to.

So lets look at those statistics.

Quote:Fifty three percent of all homicides committed by 1.2 percent of the population.
   http://www.census.gov/prod/3/97pubs/97statab/vitstat.pdf

Quote:80 percent of violent crimes involve an attacker and victim of the same race. “For the 20 percent of violent crimes that are interracial, 15 percent involve black offenders and white victims; 2 percent involve white offenders and black victims; and 3 percent involve other combinations.”23

If we divide each population by the number of crimes committed by individuals in that population, we see that there was one anti-black attack for every 94,436 white people, but one anti-white attack for every 59,172 black people. Thus, the rate of black-perpetrated hate crimes against whites is approximately 1.6 times higher than the rate of white-perpetrated hate crimes against blacks.

Quote:123 African-Americans and 326 white people were shot dead by police in 2012.

Black on white crime is astronomically higher than white on black crime. Statistics shown here on how blacks are committing crimes 200 times more then whites on blacks.

And what is even sadder is blacks are committing genocide on themselves on a daily basis. If they would just restore the family values they once had and get the hell off the democrat plantation of handouts and welfare they would not be 13% percent of the population today but instead 37%.

You ever truly watch this scene closely and here what the character Bane is saying here. I have and it sounds like what our dear leader and the likes of Sharpton and others are calling for in America.

It doesn't matter.

The Community is all about The Community.

Remember, there were black ministers and racial industry activists who accused Mr. Obama of "not being black enough" because he had an education and could speak without saying "*}-{#%^&@!" every other word.

I agree that maybe the whole Ferguson thing is being overly blown out of proportion, but I will continue to claim that racism is so incredibly real and is still being practice to this very day by plenty of people, not just police officers. However, it is being practiced and lived up to by police officers, but they are smart enough (some of them, anyway) not to make that apparent because slavery is no longer legal and could cause issues because of how taboo a subject it is. If you are a racist, generally, you are looked down upon given how much this country has changed in the last 50-60 years. But that doesn't mean that racism doesn't still exist. Hell, look at the neo-Nazi party that still exists not only in Europe, but in America as well. Racism exists in ALL forms, not just against black people, although they tend to be the ones at the forefront of the fight..
