Whale kills trainer

ORLANDO - A SeaWorld killer whale seized a trainer in its jaws Wednesday and thrashed the woman around underwater, killing her in front of a horrified audience. It marked the third time the animal had been involved in a human death.



Distraught audience members were hustled out of the stadium immediately, and the park was closed.



Trainer Dawn Brancheau, 40, was one of the park's most experienced. It was not clear if she drowned or died from the thrashing.

Orca Whales are not meant to be kept in captivity, nor are any whales or animals. This whale has killed 2 people before, it shows you something, they are bored, nothing to amuse them, you can't just keep filling them with drugs to stay calm.



The woman chose to support a cause which is dangerous, and she died because of it, and i have no sympathy for her.

it's kinda neat to have the whales in captivity so that people can see them, but they shouldn't be forced to do all these tricks for us. that's the part that's wrong.

I saw that on the news, In my opinion they should kill the whale. It isn't the first time it's killed before, or just set the jerk free!

I totally agree with you on this Nebulous.



At the end if the day, if this whale has killed before and you know that fact, why risk your life to work with it again? What's to say it wouldn't do it again.



I say let it go back into the wild if you know its not suitable to work with.

While I feel badly that this woman lost her life, she broke rules by having her ponytail exposed. The whale saw it as food, grabbed it and pulled the poor woman under. Horrible was to die but I disagree with a poster who thinks the whale should be killed. The whale should be set free and not place in a tank for human amusement. For goodness sake, these are not Gold Fish, these are huge Orca whales. Saddens me they are kept captive and not free the way they are meant to be.
