As a youtuber, I take this one rule very seriously: If you wouldn't do it in public, you shouldn't do it online.

And some general life safety rules:

1. If someone asks if you live alone, the answer is always no and you're expecting visitors soon.
2. The deadbolt on some hotel doors is just for show, it does nothing. To keep someone out properly, use an ironing board or a chair to jam the handle.
3 if you turn the lights of in a hotel and can see little lights on in the vents, it's a camera.
4. Pepper Spray is VERY effective.
5. If you think you are being followed, make a whole scene. Act completely crazy. It will draw attention your potential assailant will want to avoid.
6. Baking soda can put out small grease fires.
7. In the case of a fire, breath through cloth, like in your clothes for instance, to minimize smoke inhalation
8. If you need help, seek it. No matter the case. Some things require professional help and sometimes the first way you try to get help doesn't work out. Keep trying other ways.
9. Every 5 seconds you count between when you see lightning and hear the thunder is 1 mile from your location.
10. There is no minimum amount of water to drink to avoid dehydration and you should just drink when you are thirsty and you will be fine. Overhydrating however can cause "water poisioning" which is when you drink so much water that it kills the electrolytes in your brain which can lead to death.

What are your tips and rules?

  • Stay alert, confident, and aware of your surroundings. Walk purposefully and make eye contact with people around you. Trust your instincts.
  • Avoid alleys, short cuts and vacant lots. Stick to well-lighted, busy streets.
  • Walk with a companion whenever possible.
  • Avoid displaying large amounts of cash. Use ATM's during daylight hours only.
  • If you are being followed, abruptly change directions, stay in a well lighted area, and seek safety in a public building.

My basic rule of thumb is as below
  • If I have a bad gut feeling about something, trust my gut..
The number of times my gut was right has been way too many.
