What are your thoughts on reality shows?

Here in India there are several reality shows for all ages. I enjoy these shows but some feel the choice is stage managed. I do not agree. Atleast a commoner gets to showcase their talent which would not have happened if there were no reality shows.

A recent case in point is a shoe shiner got to be the best singer. Here is the shoeshine boy who won the title

I don't like a lot of reality shows because I can't relate to them. As they are nothing like my reality. I like the singing shows because they entertain me, but I hate the Kardashians for example.

Are they still a thing? I watched a few when they were becoming popular, I much rather stick with scripted sitcoms.

They definitely give a flees impression of how people act and should act in society. My opinion is it's all fake and would rather watch a film or series over tv reality any day! Then again, if you followed an 'average' persons life, you wouldn't get many viewers lol.

I don't like them especially the talent show ones. I used to watch Britain's Got Talent and XFactor but haven't watched them in years now. The quality of the shows have dropped massively and most of it feels fixed from the start

There's a few that I sat and watched with my mother. Like Big Brother or Survivor. All everyone does is fight and want to vote the most toxic person out of the house or off of the island. It honestly got old after awhile watching everyone talk negatively about each other in these shows.

I don't think we're talking about one specific series. Just TV reality shows in general. Have you ever seen one?

I personally don’t care for them. Some or even all, is staged to be hyped up to create the most wow factor & drama. For those who watch them, what draws you to continue watching? I know some people just like to veg out & not take life too seriously. Some view them as just a good laugh.

It's mindless entertainment for people who dont want to think about anything so it's good for those people but it's s pity it gets noticed over other things that had more thoughts go into it

What goes on in them is dumb. The psychological tactics that hooks viewers into watching them, even if the people watching think the show is dumb, is honestly quite smart and well thought out.

For me it is a pass time and I think it gives many an opportunity to show case their talent.

I just like the entertainment they give.A lot of them.are scripted so nothing real.about them.

Reality TV shows are fine as long as they are entertaining for the viewers. If they are not appealing, it will surely shutdown.
