What is your biggest high school regret?

Totally agreed on the mental health impact, they have no clue what damage they do!
Being so young and proud at the time, I don't think any lasting effect it could have on the one being bullied did not even cross their mind, though at that time of our life we can be reckless and careless, so I think they did have an ill intention to see you suffer.

In their mind it's all about making themselves look cool to their friends, who they bully and what it does to them doesn't factor in at all.

I agree coolness is one of young people's number one priorities in life when in actuality they generally make themself out to be a fool for their actions.

Absolutely agreed. They don't realize it at the time, but when they grow up they see just how awful they were.

I wish I'd taken classes more seriously and chose to sit in the back row less & goofed off less. I just MIGHT have learned a little more.

You still turned out okay regarless!

Not standing up for myself so people would leave me the hell alone. Being the quiet/shy type in school I pretty much put a target on my back for people to pick on me and bully me. I was so self-conscious at the time. Though, middle school was a lot worse than high school in regards to bullying and idiots throughout.

Sorry you had to deal with that!

Absolutely. Little do they realize that they'll be nothing when they grow up, high school is meaningless as a social circle, but the damage they do can last a lifetime.

Yeah, fast forward 20 years on any high school bully and their life is complete shit usually.

In my country, bullies are protected like an endangered species. Basically, they can do whatever they want and to whoever they want, and no one is allowed to do anything about it. The schools' staff have no authority to stop them. Teachers, even the principals, are prohibited from intervening in their actions. They are free to be disruptive in class, assault other students, steal, smash, destroy property, whatever. No one is allowed to touch them. Their behavior is unconditionally condoned.

Their victims, on the other hand, are treated pretty much like criminals if they attempt to fight back. School staff and other authority figures always side with the bullies and protect them and condemn their victims for basically existing, like they shouldn't have even been there in the first place, and propose transfering to another school as a "solution". Unbelievable.

Indeed, nearly all friendships in high school fade away eventually as an adult. I know mine did, for the most part. I think I've always had somewhat of a negative, skewed perception of humanity that all started with the bullying in school, so it can indeed have a lasting impact on your mental health.
Yep, they sure do. I talk to no one who was a friend in high school nowadays.

This is exactly how bullying is handled even in the USA in schools. Schools won't do anything about it until the victim gets to a breaking point and fights back.

And that's the part when the victim comes to school armed with an assault rifle and enacts vengeance. Everyone are then stunned in disbelief, saying how the shooter was a quiet type of person who kept to himself and never caused any trouble. Always the same scenario.

Seems to be a common occurrence in US, from what I've seen in the news so far.

But the fault lies with the inanimate object; not the person controlling the inanimate object.

Yes, because rifles have minds of their own and are liable to spew out bullets when the mood hits them. :p

And the eraser was an accomplice! :D
