Would like to see opinions from both men and women.

The way you look at another person, when you look at someone in a way that you notice what makes each individual pretty in their own skin. Not just what fits a presumption you might have about 'what's pretty to me' or pay attention to 'what's not pretty to me'. There's always more than one side to a person and that applies too when you look at a person, you choose what parts of them you see/notice and the way you see them. That's what I've noticed. A person you once thought was pretty, years later may not look so pretty to you anymore even if they haven't changed in appearance or personality, it's just that you look at them differently from before.

I always believe that when someone has a level of self confidence, it comes across well and that alone can make someone 'pretty'. When someone feels good about themselves, it is natural that others see that and feel the same way towards them as well.

I think it is harder to define beauty than it is 'ugly'.

I coined something along those lines a few years ago in relation to another topic:

"Trying to define the word 'beauty' with words is like trying to make a cotton ball out of cast iron. You might get a close approximation, but you'll never get the full sense of the real thing."
- Dr. Leftover

If we are talking about true "beauty", which, in the end, is what matters, I absolutely agree with Mojo and submit a fine example:

Come on! We are all giving the politically correct answers. When I first seen my wife I was not saying what a great looking brain. I was saying what a great looking body. And I'm a butt guy so that looked good also. Now we celebrated our nine year anniversary April 28th and what I continue to find sexy is her body, her compassion, her intellectual challenge on me, her ability to always want me to do the right thing.

Sexy changes and grows over the years with the people you love.

Can a woman be pretty without being sexy?

Sure I guess? I can think of many mornings where my wife thought she looked a horrible creature waking up and I would think she looks so pretty in my eyes.

My post is simply how I see it.......

I thought your post said it beautifully, because you can have a pretty woman but if she treats her man like shit, that pretty woman becomes ugly real fast.

Yes.

They are separate things.

In fact, believe it or not, I did an article about that some time ago.

I disagree. When you first see a woman ever you do not say she is not sexy but she sure is pretty. A man makes a opinion of either sexy going all the way to ugly right there on the spot. Thats how a man thinks. I wont believe otherwise if they try to tell you that is not true. It takes time for a man to know a woman to make sexy and pretty to separate issues about a person. Or sexy but a very ugly woman.

Yes, of course I look at women. And, most of the time, I do evaluate their physical charms on a rather harsh scale.

However, I stand by the comment that some of the species can be pretty, but NOT sexy. Yes, they might stand in as a single night's star attraction, but it may well be a case of where it was one of those where you have buyer's regret, the next morning.

Case in point. I consider a "natural woman" far sexier than one that has been extensively remodeled by a plastic surgeon, no matter how skilled they were.

Yes, the final product might be excellent eye candy from about twenty feet away, but on closer inspection, "thanks but no thanks".

In the article I mention "statuesque but dimwitted" and a few other considerations, such as poor personal hygiene.

It is the overall package that earns the label 'sexy'. Yes, on stage, she may be very pretty, but when the time comes to buy her a drink, you might have to go to the bathroom suddenly, and then slip out through the kitchen.

Not every pretty woman I know I would call sexy. And counterwise, not every woman that I know that I think is sexy, I would also call pretty.

And this also goes for women in the movies and on TV. Some of the most glamorous and beautiful women in the world I wouldn't want to spend a weekend with. They may be beautiful, but they are not really sexy. Yes I wouldn't mind a tumble with them, Your Brutha is not one to turn down a woman under anything but extremely unusual circumstances, especially some supermodel, but a One Night Stand isn't what I'm talking about here. Sure it'd be great to bed down one of those BayWatch / Soap Opera Bimbos, but the other ramifications of the act would be almost unbearable.

What if she wanted to talk?
