They sound very much alike, and they have a similar register. I had not heard of her before Call Me Maybe so I thought it was Miley Cyrus when I first heard the song.

Same here. In fact, when I first heard this on YouTube, if they hadn't had the artists' name, I would have sworn that was Miley Cyrus singing. Because I agree they do sound alike! In fact, had Cyrus come out with a remake of that song, done the exact same way, I don't think I'd have known the difference.
