I live in a town where we have migrant workers from Haiti. They come every year to work in the apple orchards. They work very hard and live in housing provided by the apple orchard owners. They have no transportation so they walk several miles into town to shop and spend their hard earned money.

Today I was in the coffee shop behind several other customers. Two migrant workers were at the counter ordering coffee and buttered rolls (which I clearly could understand). The woman behind the counter kept pretending she didn't understand what they wanted. They kept repeating their order and the woman said really loud: Why the hell can't you speak English and tell me what the hell you want. She then told them to get out of line and yelled next.

What would you have done in this situation as a customer standing in that line? Would you have said something or just ignore it?

To be honest nothing at all. Until i got i got home called there manger and said blah blah was being racist to these two people who were trying to buy something and tell the manger what she said

Well here is what I did. I ordered my coffee plus two extra and two buttered rolls. I asked for the managers name, paid and left. I knew that the men couldn't have gotten that far since they were on a bicycle. I found them and beeped my horn for them to stop (which they did). I got out of my truck and handed them their coffee and buttered rolls. They immediately tried to pay me but I told them no that it was on me. I told them that what happened was not a reflection on the whole town and that I was sorry it happened to them. I told them next time they could pay for my coffee and I left. I called the manager and reported this nasty woman when I got home.

I dont know if that would happen in my area. We have more foreigners (especially mexicans) than natural Americans. People are tolerant of foreign people and their accents.

If I seen that I'd probably blown away and I doubt people around here quietly stand and listen to a bitch like that.. If I didnt say something, someone else would.

Well done Jazzy.

What a great thing you did there.

If it'd been me I would have just told the assistant what the men wanted and if she still persisted I'd have called her a few choice names beginning with racist.

The coffee person would have had the same accent, lol

but if it did happen i would not have done anything and probably posted it on some website and forgotten about it

I wouldn't of done nothing. Where I live there is to many migrants here and there is just no jobs and It's not helping with them being over here, getting a job faster then us because they get paid hardly anything.

I live in the most racist town of my country, things like that happen here a lot. I'd confront the lady, telling her what they need and that she could clearly understand them. Then I'd leave, I'm not supporting any businesses that treat customers like that.
