The White House on Wednesday defended a U.S.-Iran prisoner swap deal that has drawn criticism from Republicans, saying Iran gets no U.S. sanctions relief from the deal.

The United States on Monday waived sanctions to allow the transfer of $6 billion in Iranian funds from South Korea to Qatar, a step needed to carry out a previously announced U.S.-Iran prisoner swap, according to a U.S. document seen by Reuters.

"This it not a payment of any kind. It's not a ransom. These aren't U.S. taxpayer dollars. We haven't lifted a single one of our sanctions on Iran," John Kirby, the White House national security spokesperson, told reporters.

It was $6bn in Iranian oil money, so no American tax dollars were used. In addition, the money will be tightly guarded and tightly dispersed for humanitarian uses only.
What will Joe do when the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic nukes either Tel Aviv or Riyadh?
Turn Tehran into a glass parking lot?

Both Israel and the Saudis equally hate Iran (and vice versa: in Israel's case, because it exists -- in Saudi Arabia's case, because its' considered 'the Guardian of Islam" due to the presence of Mecca and Medina) but Iran also knows if it nukes either place their existence can begin to be counted in minutes, if not seconds.

Of course, given America's sordid history with Iran at times (overthrowing Mossadegh in 1953, supporting the Shah, shooting down Iran Air 655) maybe Biden's best course of action should be to stay the hell out of the way when the brown stuff hits the rotary object; we've done enough damage in that part of the world. Besides, Israel's got about 200-300 nukes at present; if they wanted to send Iran back to the Stone Age, they could very well do so and the rest of the Arab world would likely (Syria notwithstanding) sit back and watch the festivities.
