Why do people hate Rap so much?

Just to answer the question, because of the amount of fowl language.

Because rap is not music. It is some idiot talking to a beat and 99% of the crap that I've heard is either totally offensive or you can't understand the words. I have no use for that ear-bleed crap. IT ISN'T MUSIC.

I totally disagree with you.. I am a new artist that stands the rap/hip hop genre..We actually get into our music. The subjects we rap about you may not know anything about cause you never lived what we went through. For example a artist sings about living in poverty, you wouldn't get it unless you walked the same path, an lived in the same situations.. We rap about drugs you wouldn't like it cause you no nothing about them....

I made both of these songs, sorry for the quality its a home studio, But take some time to listen were all different.

The Influence (Drugs)

Ride & Die Chick (A Story About A Girl I went Out With)

You can't hate a whole genre just cause one artist made a shitty song.

I agree, and I gave you +rep - your head is screwed on right.

Rap is nonsense - the artists don't expect anybody to listen to what they're adlibbing, they just want to sell records because they have a catchy, computer generated beat, and the radio stations behind them. I'm not even sure what happened to real music anymore - rap dominates, unfortunately. I'm sure that if someone professed to me their favourite song was a rap song, and I asked them what it meant, they wouldn't know.

Because rap music is meaningless.

T-Pain came out with one of my favorite songs called Suicide. Talking about what AIDS and HIV can do to you!

Too bad T-Pain is basically the AIDS of hip-hop.

But anyways, I don't get the It's too violent! It's horribly mean! It degrades women! even though 99 percent of the NON-Rap songs you rawk out to or headbang to are just as disgusting, if not worse. I don't think a rapper has ever gotten some shit in his hand (I do mean shit, by shit, I mean poop), and threw it at his audience during a concert. Or bit off a bat's head. You can't just bash rap saying it degrades women (which is one of the haters' main points of hating it), then turn around and listen to exhibitionists like LadyGagGag and Britney Spears.

I say a lot of people are very biased against rap to where they don't even see how their favorite little genres have the same basic formula to get sales.

Ooh, how pleasant; a song titled The Influence about drugs and another titled Ride & Die Chick. Naturally, those are very pleasant songs to listen to. *insert eyeroll here*

Thanks for the links, but just the titles of the songs turn me off and knowing you claim to be a rapper cements the fact that I won't listen to them. I won't like them and you won't like my critique of them.

Hey guys thanks for being ignorant!

Take a look at these artists:

Eric B. & Rakim

A Tribe Called Quest

The Roots

De La Soul

Immortal Technique

KRS-One

Binary Star

Atmosphere

Brother Ali

Aesop Rock

etc etc etc. I'll give you 50-60 more artists too if you'll stop being so ignorant.

Stop posting in this thread till you've heard at least a couple of songs by those artists.

De La Soul termed something called Da.I.S.Y (DA Inner Sound Y'all) - does that sound harmful to you? Not all rap is about getting money, fucking bitches, and smoking trees, and maybe if you guys actually weren't ignorant you guys would know that.

Ignorance is one of the things that pisses me off the most, and to me ignorance about hip-hop is the worst offender of them all.

I love tobyMac. He's rap. His raps have really deep meanings. Take a look at him on Youtube.

I'm not being ignorant, and I'm not shooting down all rap.

But, come on - most of it is actually crap.

You can't shoot down a full genre because most of it is crap. You can't insult the artists that actually do have meaning in their songs. It's what you make of it. I for the most part like rap, but that's because I can look past the general rap scene.

Is it just me or is rap not as popular as it was say 5 years ago?

If their songs have meaning, then they should write poetry or books instead of creating noise pollution.

Anyone can call just about any form of music noise pollution. Decent music imo is songs that have a meaning behind them and not just a bunch of empty words that sound cool when put together in song.

There is songs like Mockingbird, Toy soldiers, and that anti bush song all sung by Eminem that were fantastic songs that were rap.
