Wikipedia and Google join anti-piracy bill protest

I support the decisions make by Wiki and Google completely. We need people to know. I read an article that Kim Kardashian was talked about 9 times more in the past year than SOPA, an article (in my opinion) that really restricts the web.

I guess 4.5 million people signing the petition had a huge impact!

Yes.

The article makes a good point about power abuse, though. It could be applied to either side, but it's a good point.

Sometimes i wonder how much these companies really care about internet censorship. Facebook, althought not joining in the blackout, openly condemned SOPA. However, it doesn't allow the sending of link from piratebay.org......

Can someone explain that logic to me?

In Facebooks case, its whatever keeps a good public image. A site like wikipedia and google, this law is just poor for them both.

Do any of you really think what was done today is going to change anything?

Assuming by your, Do any of you REALLY think, I since condescion. Which is strange because yes, of course, it made a difference, thousands of people sent emails and called their senators voicing their opinion over the subject. Either way, what else were they supposed to do, we're desperate, they're trying to alter the number one source for information. If the bill would get passed, YouTube would have to be deleted, and numerous sites would have to gravely be altered. YouTube couldn't survive at all if the bill was passed, because they'd always be at risk of somebody uploading a copyrighted material. Basically, there was never even remotely a chance of the bill being passed in my opinion, but this spreading of the word made damn sure of that.

It's not over by any means:

SOPA has been delayed, for now. The House has agreed to revisit the issue next month, but they now know the White House will veto any bill that’s not more narrowly focused.

Well, at least one of the people that 'signed' the petition doesn't exist. We'll see if they ever verify the signatures.

Wouldn't that be a kick in the butt if they all turned out to be spam bots!

No, they were still there the first day, just undecided (Or had not claimed a position for or against the bills).
