Be as empathetic as possible. Relate to the person with whom you're arguing and understand their side of things as well as possible. Relay parts of their argument back to them in your own words (i.e. so you're saying that...); often this can have profound effects on how they think they sound.
If you fully understand the other person's argument, you can both 1: pick apart their inconsistencies, misconceptions, etc.; and 2: decide what you both agree on.
Also, if you're arguing with a friend, SO, or just anybody that you'd like to maintain a positive relationship with, remember that winning the argument is far less important than the relationship.

Just say this, "I'm not going to argue with you on this any longer." if they keep coming back for more, ignore them.
