I spotted a thread about its new browser so, let's have a discussion of the new operating system as a whole, before it is released some time this year.

What's everyone's thoughts, opinions and expectations of it so far? Could it do better than its predecessors, or maybe suffer the same fate as them? For myself, I'm a little indifferent about it, but I hope it will be as good as Windows 7.

I haven't really had a look at it yet, if I can get away with skipping it, I probably will.

Well that all depends. I'd like to see more about it because I'm not a huge fan of 8.

The only thing I wanna see confirmed is the rumoured free upgrade from windows 8. There's no way it can be worse...

so, what happened to windows 9? :P

They decided to use 10 instead. 8.1 was intended to be a service pack update but for some reason they counted it as another Windows OS. :P

still doesn't make sense since windows 8.1 is just an updated version of windows 8...

but, we're talking about the same company that went from xbox to xbox 360 to xbox one... :s

Names don't really matter. :P

I hope its a free upgrade. That would be coool. :)

:blah:

if xbox named xbox one, xbox 540, that'd be way cooler, funnier and better in my opinion... :D

and i'm pretty sure it'll be free...

Wednesday’s Windows 10 event was an exciting one for dedicated Windows users, but it’ll still be several months before we have a chance to get the full experience on our own personal computers. Until then, Microsoft’s Nebulous Belfiore is happy to walk us through some of the new features that were unveiled today, from Cortana integration to Xbox One game streaming.

In the following video, Belfiore begins by discussing why Microsoft decided to make Windows 10 a free upgrade for all Windows 7, Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8.1 users.

“Really the core idea here is to get everyone to the latest and greatest, so that they will love Windows and they’ll love their computing experience. They’ll be able to engage in a way that makes the whole ecosystem more healthy. More ISVs writing apps, more new, interesting hardware to buy, lots of engaged people creating lots of content. We want to move the world’s computing experience forward.”

He then goes on to discuss some of the operating system’s new features. First up is Cortana, the personal assistant which will be heavily modified for use with the PC. He then runs through some of the universal apps such as Office, Outlook and Photos that will be able to run on any Windows 10 device.

Project Spartan and Xbox get their time in the sun as well, so be sure to watch the full video to learn everything you need to know about Microsoft’s recent advances with Windows 10.

I don't think there will be a free upgrade from 7/8.1 to 10. Maybe they are going to charge a small fee for that.
