Windows XP

It served it's purpose, it's time people moved on

NO!!!! As long as it can run most things there's no reason to move on. That's just wasting money.

And people who don't move on slow the progression of technology, like people who still use IE6

I use Windows XP and am very happy with it. Not all of us can afford to upgrade and this is just fine what I'm using now.

That's just stupid, for security and display reasons.

XP just works though, sure it will be a security issue in a few years, but for now it just works, without all the flashy stuff.

Also, for the purpose of running older programs it's a good thing to have some dated technology.

IE6 doesn't work very well with modern websites, that's why the 20% of people who still use it are slowing the internet's progression.

XP is nearly 10 years old and has several security flaws along with 100,000s of viruses where Windows 7 is in theory better protected against them.

Which is why you should design your sites according to the W3 specs and not according to the browsers.

True, but a good antivirus can keep the viruses out and because XP's dated software fewer people are going to create new viruses for it. Basically 7 is taking the bullets

I have malware and antivirus running and I've never had a problem.

Not when XP still has more market share than Windows 7, they are going to target the biggest audience and whatever is easier to hack

That'll change soon enough. 7 seems to come with everything nowadays so there's little escaping it.

Many people still prefer XP because it's what they are used to. My uncle for example refuses to use anything other than XP and didn't want to upgrade IE to version 8.

Those people don't last, there's no support for them. They'll be forced to get something newer.

Did you tell him about W3?

Windows XP was brilliant at the time, but time has moved on. Even though Windows XP is still not bad though. Windows 7 owns XP lol.
