Woman paid attacker $20 not to rape her

A woman stopped a man from raping her by giving him $20 (£13), police have said.

Authorities said that the woman, 24, was walking near McCarren Park in Brooklyn, New York, on Saturday when a man grabbed her by the neck and fondled her genitals. He reportedly told the woman ‘I’m going to have sex with you’ as he did so.

In a desperate attempt to stop him, the woman offered to pay the man. He accepted, and the pair walked to a nearby cash-point, where she withdrew and gave her attacker just $20, police said.

The woman was not seriously injured in the attack and refused medical attention at the scene.

The suspect is described as a black male.
