A pedestrian injured by a motorist while following an online route has filed a lawsuit claiming Google supplied unsafe directions.

Lauren Rosenberg filed a lawsuit seeking more than $100,000 (£68,000) in the US District Court in Utah. It also named a motorist she says hit her.

Ms Rosenberg used her phone in January to download directions from one end of Park City to the other. Google Maps led her to a four-lane street without footpaths that was not reasonably safe for pedestrians, according to the lawsuit filed by the California resident.

The case has become a sensation on tech blogs, websites and cable television channels, with critics assailing the woman for ignoring her own safety to blindly follow online directions. Her lawyer Allen Young said the truth was different.

Neither can I. She shoulc have used some common sense and tried to do her journey in the day, not the pitch black darkness.

Might as well sue the motor company (build the car) and the city (for making unsafe roads) too.

But, that's only based on what I read in the first post. Maybe there's more to the story. Maybe.

People here can sue companies for getting third degree burns from ordering hot coffee just because there wasn't warnings on the cup that said it was hot. I mean what did they expect? It's hot coffee. I hardly think common sense is used anymore... Haha.

I'm sure there is something on Google which says that the directions may not be the best available, or something along those lines.....

People should stop using a computer as a replacement for their brain IMO.

I got directions off Google today, for a walking journey tomorrow, from where I get off the bus to where I go get my connection.

Fingers crossed

Only with certain occasions to I garner sympathy toward ignorance, this is not one of them.

True that, true that.

Either that, or there is such an invention as an actual MAP! Online sites like Google shouldn't always be trusted for things like traveling, because I'm pretty sure that 9 times out of ten they are not always accurate.
