Word Censors

I don't go for racial slurs, that type of thing...but most other words are OK. And most posters will censor themselves.

I don't have any on my forum as we allow swearing. If a forum does have word censors though, I like an option to turn them off.

Depends on the type of forum. I was on a Meg Cabot forum once, where most of the members were around 11/12 years old. With that kind of member base, word censors are a good idea. Besides, if not for them, I'd randomly swear and not remember to censor it myself.

Depends what age group and what the forum is about. As my forum was a hosting company support forum it wasn't recommended, but I never had a censor on.

I like to keep word censors off unless they are abusing their privileges of using them.

Even if a forum disallows swearing, it should not have a word censor.

Why? Well then users could report it easier.

For example, someone cusses someone out, well it's easier to notice if all the words were just there, and otherwise the moderator might be confused if there's just stars.

Good point, that! I like your thinking. We don't allow swearing on Chatting Time either, and I used to do censors in the past, but that's just plain silly. So I'm leaving the censors off.

I don't really like word censors. We are on forums. Members should be able to express themselves. Of course if is abused then that's a different story.
