What's some of the worst weather you can remember that hit your town in recent years? Was it a tornado? Hurricane? Blizzard?

Maryland's had some hurricanes but never a direct hit. We had some nasty blizzards over the years as well, I can remember getting a storm with a foot of snow then 2 days later getting smacked with another storm that had over a foot of snow. Tornadoes are rare, and earthquakes only happen if VA or Jersey gets them.

Sandy created tornadoes that mollywhopped the East Coast long before she completely fucked up NYC..

There were houses and businesses near where I lived in Brooklyn that were still in the same state of disrepair from both her and Irene years later.. even from when I left Brooklyn 2 years ago.. so while much of the country was out having hurricane parties.. NYC was getting crushed. It was actually one of the biggest causes for the shit hitting thr fan where my old building was concerned and then there was the Mineral, VA earthquake that violently shook my building so hard that it undid just about every shitty fix ever done since my great-grandmother moved there back in the 1950s..

And don't EVEN get me started on the Nor'easters and Polar Vortexs.. but really just about all of the seasons were fucked.. and ironically enough, even though I was scared that we'd be buried under snow once we got here, it hasn't really been all that bad.. the worst thing that happened to us last year was the wildfires..

But one of the reasons we moved North was because we will need the elevation as the sea level rises and NYC will only get worse. Our MTA took a major hit with both Sandy and Irene and things will only get worse as our climate worsens..

-Winter: the Great Blizzard of 1993. Most places in Western NC got at least 16-20 inches of snow; school was out for about a week and power was out for several days in most places.
-Summer: Hurricane Hugo, 1989. That sonuvabitch hit Charleston as a high-end Cat 3/low Cat 4, hit Charlotte as a mid-level Cat 1 and roared over Western NC as a high-end tropical storm. We lost power for at least 10-14 days; school was out about 2-3 weeks as a result.
