What do you think is the single most important piece of advice young people need to know so they don't end up with regrets later on in life?

Be yourself..period, full stop.

Stop and think before you act/speak. Use your brain. Don't let your emotions rule your decision-making.

Seconding this statement. Most of my issues were because I didn't think for the right actions.

Listen to people who've "been there / done that" giving you advice. Don't think you know better and you know everything, because you don't half the time.

Yeah! This, this, this. You make think you know everything, and/or should learn on your own the hard way, but trust me. Save yourself the heartache and the stress, the potential danger and learn from the people who've been through what you may potentially go through. I'm glad I was able to do that and learn from other people's mistakes.

I had the outlook of the hard headed young person who ignored advice and thought I knew better. Looking back, I should have listened to the people trying to help me.

It's kind of natural, though, for younger people to be that way. They're still in this "me, me, me" phase where they're old enough to be emancipated or smoke or buy lotto tickets, or they're old enough to be called to the draft, and they have it in their minds that if they can handle certain "adult" things, they must be able to handle other adult situations. But it's been scientifically proven that the frontal lobe, the "CEO" of your brain that makes decisions and is capable of determining consequences, is not done developing until well into your twenties. So for even young twenty somethings to think they're already adults and ready to handle responsibilities with heavy consequences is silly.

Most young people haven't had enough shit happen to them yet. With a lack of life experience and fucked up things going on, they get this sense of immortality and think "that wont happen to me." ...Well I got news for you younger people, it can and will happen to you! :faint:
