Do you have a vast vocabulary? Do you integrate "big words" into your everyday conversations? What are some good words to add to your vocabulary?

I don't think I have a vast vocabulary. I've spent most of my life by myself not talking to anyone and I can't focus on reading anymore. I could say I have a vaster typing-bulary than a vocal one. Often when I try to describe something in Finnish all I can think of is a English way or words to describe it, and it doesn't always translate easily.

I wouldn't say vast, and I only use words as they absorb, not simply because I know them. I know way more words than I use on a regular basis, but I have been told I use larger or more complicated words than some at times.

Comes from being an antisocial bookworm.

I have knowledge of a relatively large amount of "big words" but they don't really come out when I am speaking naturally. Sometimes when I hear other people showing off their extensive language skills, it's kind of a turn off. Like, I get the feeling they are purposely trying to indirectly say that they are intellectually superior or something.

I feel like it's very pretentious to insert large words into your daily vocabulary on purpose. Using them naturally is one thing, but it's usually pretty apparent when someone is trying to sound smart vs when they genuinely speak that way naturally. Pseudo-intellectuals are a big pet peeve for me.

I do love those that do that for one very good reason.

I know what most of the 'big words' mean, and if you spout of a string of them, and don't use them correctly, I'll stop you in mid-launch and make you back up and explain what the hell you were talking about.

Or they think it makes them sound more intelligent.....I actually know someone like that.
Tries to hide his stupidity behind "Big words".

I think we all know someone like that.

I know big words but struggle to spell and say/explain things so tend to keep things simple.

I have the hardest time defining words sometimes, and it's not that I don't understand them it's just sort of like trying to define "the".

It's quite good, or so I've heard.
Don't tend to make much of an effort to sound formal though... there's a bit of a distinction between how I talk and how I end up writing when I have to :P
