How did your parent/parents punish you when you were a child?

Depending on just how bad I was: I would get spanked or grounded and sent to my room. Grounded meant I could only go to school and back. Eat dinner, get back in my room with no TV privileges. I think the spanking was better as it was over quickly and then I moved on.

My parents never bothered to take my "privileges" (if we can call them that) away when I "misbehaved". They just unleashed physical hell on me and brutally beat me with either bare hands or some solid object that came in handy.

My mother's favorite method was to pin me against the wall or the floor with her body weight so I couldn't get away, cover my mouth with one hand to prevent me from screaming out loud in pain and use the other hand to hit me wherever she could, all while screaming "I am your parent, I gave birth to you, I am right, you are wrong and therefore you must do as I say" (loosely translated, of course).

My father preferred to just slap me around, to hit me across the face. Not much effort there.

What did I do to earn such treatment, you may wonder. As far as I can remember - usually nothing other than quietly sitting in the corner, minding my own business, not disturbing anyone, not doing any harm to anyone, or anything like that. My mere presence was enough to enrage my parents.

I've often witnessed other kids my age at the time doing things that would normally be described as "misbehavior". One of them even stole things from people, including money from his own parents. I don't recall ever seeing or hearing that their parents so much as said a word to them about it, much less punished them. :dontknow:

Belt, grounding and spankled with a hairbrush... Bristle side.

I don't remember really ever being punished.
