A team of elite keyboard ninjas has revealed that most of us have been shutting down our PCs all wrong.

You shouldn’t fiddle around with the mouse and menu system – or god forbid, hold down the Off key on a laptop, which can occasionally scramble your machine’s brains.

Instead, you just tap (and don’t hold), the Windows key, then Right on the directional pad, then Return.

Your machine will then shut all programs and switch off, at least in Windows 7.

In other versions of Windows, such as Windows 8, click on the desktop and hit Alt-F4.

Note: there’s no Back button here, so trying it out WILL shut down your machine.

We know. We tried.

Tech experts Ghacks say, ‘While you can use mouse and keyboard to shut down Windows, you can achieve the same goal using the keyboard.

‘This is often faster as you need to hit a combination of keys without touching the mouse at all. The main issue here is that the sequence is different depending on the operating system you are using.

So.... Keyboard shortcuts? That's it? These other 'techniques' don't actually do anything different..

I guess I was correct in rolling my eyes when I read the title.
