For quite some time now, we've seen quite a few releases of zombie video games with different spins on them. Some of them do better than others, and some are simply the exact same games we've seen before with hints of other games scattered about. What is with this trend and fascination of zombie video games? I feel a bit like the majority of them aren't all that good and are just the same thing over and over again with bits of uniqueness here and there, but there's not enough. What are your guys' thoughts?

zombies are zombies thats it

That doesn't make sense. What about them? Zombies are zombies, yes, but I asked questions and it'd be great if you went into more detail.

maybe this will explain some:

IDK, the latest trend it seems started with the hype around the walking dead and the zombie mode in the imo terrible game COD: black ops. Could be completely wrong in drawing these conclusions. It just seems that after those things launched, suddenly we saw a huge increase in zombie stuff, both tv shows/movies and games.

As for the games itself... meh. I'm not into zombies, idc.

With the release of Dying Light, it kind of reminded me a little of Far Cry and CoD/Battlefield. I don't know what the story is aside from what I've seen in game trailers, but it doesn't look like it's anything new or at least told in a way that could make a huge impact like...oh, let's say The Last of Us. Not only in TLOU are you trying to survive against zombies, but other people as well along with the personal struggles. It wasn't just a zombie game, which was wonderful, but it was so much more.

Resident Evil is a good zombie game series to play. They mix things up where its not just zombies you're shooting at. They also made it where you had to survive and didn't encourage to have go on a zombie killing spree. Save your ammo until you need it.
