A judge sparked controversy after he compared a teacher found guilty of statutory rape to ‘dangling candy’.
Judge Garett Page was presiding over the sentencing of school teacher Erica Ginetti in Pennsylvania when he made the bizarre comments.
Ginetti was convicted of having sex with a 17-year-old male student, but Judge Page was accused of trivialising the crime when he compared her to ‘dangling candy’.
‘What young man would not jump on that candy?’, he said.
He made the comments as he berated the teacher for sending explicit photographs and videos of herself to a pupil, before she had sex with him.
But while the former maths teacher had been facing up to 14 years in jail, she was left off lightly as the Judge sentenced her to a minimum of three months, including 30 days in jail and 60 under house arrest.
