I mostly reply to threads. If it's a newer forum or one that's revamping, I may post a few threads to help kickstart some conversations.
On my forum I start most of the threads.
I will reply to threads that interest me but I will also reply to those that have 0 replies to hopefully get a discussion going. I've found that has worked in several forums I'm in.
How many posts? On mine it can vary. On others, I try to do several.

I like creating topic threads as well as posting replies. As long as the topics I want to talk about are available, I don' create a new thread. I create new threads only when I do not find a topic that I want to talk about.

Do you search before creating a new thread? I usually don't and on other forums I've been told "THIS THREAD ALREADY EXISTS!!! NEXT TIME USE THE SEARCH FEATURE BEFORE CREATING A THREAD!" and my reaction is usually.. yeah, I probably wont create any more threads on your forum if you're going to be like that. Lol

I try to balance things out a bit, but I do find it easier to post replies than threads on large forums. I'm always paranoid I'm going to make a duplicate topic, but thankfully there's a search feature on pretty much every forum software so that isn't much of a problem!
