You have to like one more than the other... :P

Answer the question that applies to you:

* Why do you like forums MORE than social media sites (like Twitter or Facebook)?

-or-

* Why do you like social media sites (like Twitter or Facebook) MORE than forums?

I like forums more because of their set up (in terms of categories, sub-forums, etc) and how easy it is to have a conversation about certain topics. On social media sites, there really isn't the option to categorize discussions.

I like forums more because they allow me to delve into deeper discussions than I think social networks can provide. I also am not really a fan of social networks due to the way they are laid out.

I like forums more because I am anonymous for the most part and can be a little more comfortable saying whatever I want to say. Most of my family is on Facebook and I can't say anything on there without being scrutinized and possibly judged. Its also kind of awkward when I post things on there and then people ask me about those things when they see me in person.

Also, you meet and talk to peeps from all over. Chances are you wouldn't run into those same peeps on Facebook.

Seconding this. But we shouldn't forget about having a complete life too. I can't just have an online life, since there are always people to share my interests face to face.

There is a never-ending topic titled "Will Facebook kill forums" on theadminezone.com
Basically you can't say that Facebook or any other social network will kill forums, it definitely helped in lowering people's interest in joining discussion communities but still I know lots of folks who prefer it the classic way and they regard Facebook, Twitter and whats alike to a place for "immature" people as they describe.

I enjoy this more than that.

Both have their place, and serve their purposes well.

Exactly, that is what I wanted to say. Forums for me will always be a very precious place and Facebook is good for connecting with good friends and remembering old memories. However, for me, Twitter is out of the consideration since it is a place for assholes imo.

I like forums better for all the listed reasons above.
I mean, on FB, I won't even talk to someone I don't know, because I don't know them and I delete people who don't talk to me on there because I see it as a way to communicate with people you already know. It would be odd to go around and add people on FB that you don't know and start a serious discussion with them. :p

On forums, it's more open, you can say what you want, talk to who you want, etc.

I prefer social media simply due to how easy news travels, mainly twitter. By following a fair amount of people on twitter you will always be in the know regarding current affairs, and I love to keep up to date with that kind of thing.

Forums have their benefits too, I can spend hours/days on a forum addicted, but I can only visit facebook for like a minute at a time before getting bored (unless i'm using it to communicate with someone).

Yeah I totally agree with what Mike said. I can keep browsing forums for hours but Facebook is only for communication. It is only a matter of minutes before I close my Facebook tab after shortly opening it.

Agreed about Facebook's inability to keep me enthralled on their website for longer than 2 minutes at a time. It's a site I find myself checking sporadically for not that long a time. With forums, I could kill an hour or two if there are a lot of discussions, or if I'm trying to post new threads.

I like forums a whole lot better than social networks. On social networks, like Facebook, people mainly share stuff that's already been posted, so it's a never-ending cycle of redundancy. Now, if people only posted about their life and what was going on in them, I might like it more. Social networks like Reddit, on the other hand, are like a mix between forums and social networking, which I like. Still, I'll take forums any day over social networks.

Hmm.. I like FB more than forums because A] my fam is there, B] I follow various actors' FB pages, C] Candy Crush Saga...

Still have the same answer.
