This is a subject I see all the time. Do people just not want to work anymore, or is there some other issues?

Yes there is a bit more to this story. A lot has to do with not being paid a good wage, no benefits, etc.

So I'm not one of the people who say this. I just am wondering what people think about this.

I've heard this too. Along with 'there's a shortage of...teachers, etc. Is this only in the U.S. or is this world wide?
Probably compound reasons.
Entitlement attitude?

People work because they've been brought into this world against their will and told they must work if they want to live. No one ever explained to them why should they live in the first place, what's so great about being alive, though. Still, humans just accepted the 'you must live' BS and continued to perpetuate it throughout the centuries.

Perhaps modern generations, being better educated and having the knowledge of the whole world instantly available to them via the Internet, came to realize it's all one huge pointless BS, and would rather actually enjoy life that's been forced upon them than spend it doing it something that brings them no joy, no fun - work.

People realized they're worth more than a lot of jobs pay them for and went to the employers that pay what their workers deserve. With how many people retired and died in the pandemic leaving so many job openings, those left in the work force had a lot more options available to them to find something better.

Employers haven't given a shit about their employees forever, and would replace any one of them in a heartbeat without a second thought, and now want to play the victim when the workers finally turned around and said they're not tolerating it anymore. Don't like it, then adapt or die. I won't miss any business that can't give their employees a decent wage and treatment and any that claims no one wants to work for them deserves to go out of business tomorrow.

Absolutely agree with the sentiments being expressed here. It is quite a rare shift in the power balance where workers are now finding themselves in a better position to negotiate for better conditions. It is definitely tragic the circumstances which had to happen in order for this situation to come about. But hopefully this does mean that going forward the power balance between employers and employees continues towards one which is more just. Although unsurprisingly we are seeing serious efforts to try and discredit and undermine any of the gains which have been made by employees. The propaganda that the media outlets are spewing out as identified by Kale as well as their line of "quiet quitting" which entails workers doing their contracted duties and not going above and beyond them. It has always been absurd the extra, and often unpaid, responsibilities that employees were simply expected to follow.

Unsurprisingly our right wing opposition party here in New Zealand is promising changes to our welfare system which would force beneficiaries to accept any jobs regardless of how suitable they are for their circumstances. Would just become a way to funnel workers into jobs where employers are not prepared to give decent pay and conditions.

Without either enough pay for the specific job, benefits to match or the opportunity to work at home (or a combination of them) most people won't search for a job unless they absolutely have to. Problem there then becomes that to receive UEI you have to have been either laid off or left w/out cause (i.e. fired) and the requirements in some states are so strict as to basically not make it worth doing so.

That’s exactly what it is. We have is a generation that expects top tier pay and benefits without a bit of suffering and earned experience to get what they want in life. The tik tok commie influencers now call it……

Which is absolutely fine to me it just means I get the business because of a lazy generation that wants something they didn’t earn.

People realized they're worth more than a lot of jobs pay them for and went to the employers that pay what their workers deserve.

Are they though?

If you are educated person and in a job that requires skills and in demand pay is quite high in whatever you do.

Flipping burgers, making coffee, or any basics job deserves minimum pay because it requires the absolute minimum skill. Sorry they don’t deserve more because they aren’t worth it.

How about instead of people being whiny little dependent bitches blaming a business that’s trying to keep it’s doors open you make a personal change in your life and if it means taking two jobs to do it then do it! Life is not meant to be easy but a never ending challenge of ups and many more downs. If life was like what I’m hearing here civilizations would have never happened and we certainly wouldn’t be sharing it on our devices.

You better damn well prove you can’t work to get unemployment in Florida.

People just don’t want to suffer for a few years to get what they want in life. Then your ass needs to starve because society shouldn’t do it if you ain’t going to try. What we have become in the last 100 years is a society that went from giving a helping hand to just endlessly giving out other peoples hard work.

Brought into this world against there will?!?? Lol! So should the human population just disappear? Maybe sending out questionnaires to sperm before the act.

Someone has to pay and suffer in one form or another to make sure a person who thinks there life should be all enjoyment without challenges and hardships. What about those people who are working hard to keep society running so someone else thinks they never should suffer?

Yes, the human population should ideally just disappear. It would mean the end of all suffering we are forced to endure because our parents couldn't keep it in their pants. Unfortunately, humans cling to life like it has some purpose, as if the planet Earth would miss us if we were to stop polluting and destroying it for our own benefit.

I'm not the only one who thinks like that:

No nuclear launch codes for you.

How upside down things are. This used to be part-time work for hi-school kids to earn a little pocket change. Now this has to be a "living wage" job; there are "Now Hiring" signs prominently displayed at just about all of the fast-food "joints".
And people are being paid unspeakable millions to be good at sports games.
What a mess.

Don't forget actors. Not only do they make millions per role, but they also receive royalty fees for the rest of their lives. And for what? For being in a movie? Of course, the more money the movie makes, the higher their royalties are. It's no wonder famous actors can afford themselves to buy expensive houses, mansions, vehicles and god knows what else, just because they've been born with a talent to entertain other humans who do not posses such talent. Other than that, they're worthless parasites the mankind has no practical use for, just like the sportsmen.

Ya, now am seeing Taco Bell pay $14-$15 an hour here and even McDonald's is doing it I think.

No problem with actors making ungodly amounts of money. People freely choose to spend money without government coercion and that pays them these large amounts. Me I now carefully choose to spend my money in movies based on two things. Since actors now want to play in the world of politics off screen I just don’t spend my money with them. And the obvious one if it’s something I like.

I wouldn’t say they are parasites, I think without entertainment in this world it would be far more violent and ugly than it is already.

Yes, because humans would then have to entertain themselves by starting even more wars and committing even more bloody massacres than they do now. At least this way they can watch someone else pretend to do it.

It's a multi-prong issue.

There are a number of folks who don't want to work anymore, out of laziness, or because they got used to handouts.
On the other hand, wages have stagnated significantly, in comparison to inflation levels and productivity levels.
Etc.
