When we leave school in Britain we get jobs or college/university places.

Yep! 1996 grad here.

Don't know how it works now as it has been years since I left, but back then we just got a certificate and no ceremony.

Why not ?
I was too lazy. The effort I put into it decreased each year, until final year I was skipping classes to hang out with friends instead. Can't really pass if you are not submitting any work.

Edit: I wouldn't say I am intelligent, but I got used to coasting by without putting in any effort on my part. I would just go to class, zone out, and then pass the exams. I didn't really take any of it seriously until I got with my ex. Then when we were going to class together I started taking uni seriously. I say that but I have 4 assignments due by the 31st of this month and I have been procrastinating hard these last two weeks. 😅 😅 Working on one of my assignments as I post this now though.

So am I.

Math r hard.
Math SUCKS! Had to do summer school for math at one point, I was the only one in the class who didn't cheat on the final (teacher was older, didn't pay attention to just how smart those graphing calculators can be). I passed, barely, but I was an outlier because everyone else got B's and up.

At least you did it the right way.

That's the one thing I take solace in. I might be math stupid, but at least I'm honest. I was offered the answers, I said no.
I think we just had to pass algebra (one year class), I was so dumb they stuck me in a 2 year class (Algebra-A and Algebra-B) and I still struggled with that.

I hear you, I hit about 8th or 9th grade and that was it, I just couldn't...get it. Math and I have been enemies ever since.
