Dear Twitter Advertisers,

I wanted to reach out personally to share my motivation in acquiring Twitter. There has been much speculation about why I bought Twitter and what I think about advertising. Most of it has been wrong.

The reason I acquired Twitter is because it is important to the future of civilization to have a common digital town square, where a wide range of beliefs can be debated in a healthy manner, without resorting to violence. There is currently great danger that social media will splinter into far right wing and far left wing echo chambers that generate more hate and divide our society.
In the relentless pursuit of clicks, much of traditional media has fueled and catered to those polarized extremes, as they believe that is what brings in the money, but, in doing so, the opportunity for dialogue is lost.

That is why I bought Twitter. I didn't do it because it would be easy. I didn't do it to make more money. I did it to try to help humanity, whom I love. And I do so with humility, recognizing that failure in pursuing this goal, despite our best efforts, is a very real possibility.

That said, Twitter obviously cannot become a free-for-all hellscape, where anything can be said with no consequences! In addition to adhering to the laws of the land, our platform must be warm and welcoming to all, where you can choose your desired experience according to your preferences, just as you can choose, for example, to see movies or play video games ranging from all ages to mature.

I also very much believe that advertising, when done right, can delight, entertain and inform you; it can show you a service or product or medical treatment that you never knew existed, but is right for you. For this to be true, it is essential to show Twitter users advertising that is as relevant as possible to their needs. Low relevancy ads are spam, but highly relevant ads are actually content!

Fundamentally, Twitter aspires to be the most respected advertising platform in the world that strengthens your brand and grows your enterprise. To everyone who has partnered with us, I thank you. Let us build something extraordinary together.

As much as I didn't like his purchase of Twitter, if he can do for it what he's done for both SpaceX, Starlink and Tesla, I'll give him props for that.

Elon Musk is the new owner of Twitter, multiple new outlets reported late Thursday. The New York Times also reported Musk had begun firing multiple top Twitter executives. Bloomberg and the Wall Street Journal both reported the deal had closed.

After months of legal wrangling and public acrimony, the deal was slated to close by Friday, giving the Tesla billionaire control of one of the world’s most powerful megaphones.

Musk has not yet named a chief executive. On Wednesday, he changed his Twitter bio to "Chief Twit" shortly before walking into Twitter's San Francisco headquarters carrying a porcelain sink. "Let that sink in," he tweeted.

With the deal completed, Twitter is once again a private company. Its shares stopped trading nearly nine years after it went public under the symbol TWTR on the New York Stock Exchange....

He did this on himself and let him run that toxic platform six feet under.

I think he's only been in charge what, one day or so?

If it fell apart that fast, its' on Twitter not Musk.

Key figures on Britain’s far right who were previously banned from Twitter have been able to open new accounts, apparently without restrictions, after the platform’s takeover by Elon Musk.

Britain First, an extreme group whose leader has spent time in jail for hate crimes against Muslims, rejoined the social media network on Friday. It had been banned in 2017 under Twitter’s hate speech rules after posting inflammatory anti-Muslim videos. Some videos posted by its then deputy leader were retweeted by US president Donald Trump.

Twitter has mechanisms to detect when banned users set up accounts, and the new Britain First account quickly had its features limited after being found to violate rules. But it was later restored to full functionality, according to screenshots shared with members in a group for Britain First supporters. The account was still live on Saturday evening.

In a post on the messaging app Telegram celebrating its return, Britain First said it would “usually be suspended immediately”, adding: “This is new.“ "Great to see our party displayed in all its glory,” a supporter replied. “Wooooo, happy bloody days!” another wrote.

So rich punk Musk allow hate speech on Twitter? I guess he doesn't know the concept of that.

I think this Twitter deal has gone to Elon's head in a hurry. Bet you 10:1 that his job won't last.

Now that its' a private company only Twitter's board of directors can oust him...and if Musk's smart, he won't give them the opportunity.
